Bottle ~2 years old? Deep brown with purple hue. Nose is concord/Welchs, with a lot of leathery funk, some cola and bubble gum. Taste is sour with some light acetic vinegar. Flavor follows nose, similar to an oud bruin, but a lot of earthy funk. Sum greater than the parts. Really complex and compelling.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of grape must, red wine barrels, and a little wild yeast. Flavour is very grape-centric, with intense tartness, red wine barrels and a little residual sweetness. Finishes on notes of wood, tart grapes, and red wine notes.

Medium-amber. Big grapey aroma, with a whack of barrel. Has vinous, woody, malty depth. Appetizing. This is really tart, vinous and woody, but the acidity is really intense. Just a whack of barrel and acetic. Doesn’t really have enough nuance for me. Not the worst beer, but there’s a lot of room for this to be better.

From notes. Had at a tasting at Abu and Ashley’s on December 15. 12 oz bottle. The pour is a darker brown with a nice purple tint and a thinner tan head that fades off quickly with a couple spots of lace. The aroma is interesting. There is a strong grape must and a good bit of barrel character right up front. There is a sourness to it, but the barrel kind of keeps it in check so you can’t understand it fully. The flavor is quite sour, and I like it. There is a solid funkiness and a good fruity wine. The barrel offers a light vanilla, and it’s just a really interesting combination. The mouth feel is a little heavy with a nice carbonation and a lingeringly strong barrel and sour grape must. It’s not what you’d expect, but it’s really nicely done.

Pours thick unclear dark brown caramel with a grayish head. The aroma brings the grape juice and a bit of perfumey must as well. The tart hits and puckers the mouth dry without a puckering face, more of a mouth smacker. The flavors are a bit of the grape wine and even juice at the end after the tart sweet malts attack at first.

Bottle pour at FoBAB 2015 at UIC Forum (Chicago, IL). Pours a deeper dark mahogany hue, reddish red wine glow on the edges with a darker middle. Frothy tannish head atop with a kiss of reddish rust. Frothy layer, nice retention. Aromas are dark and deep, red grapes and dark fruit meet some punchy lactic life. Tannic red wine, grapeskin and earthy appeal. Some carmelized and Balsamic appeal, xobwebs and decent acidity and depth. Initial is fruity and dark, some firmer sour cherry and grape life, red wine, a bit tannic and dry. Vinous character, dark and oaky with nice punchy of acidity up front. Back is fuzzy and sour, cranberry and red grapes, a bit of raspberry, earth and oak. A bit of vanillin, lots of nice sourness with that depth of red wine barrel. Tasty stuff. A rich nose, dark alluring pour and firm potent sourness, depth and tannic red wine appeal. Really nice.

12 oz bottle shared at home, purchased at the brewery. Dark purple and clear in appearance with a khaki head, mostly dissipating. Aroma of sour berries, fresh grapes, light wine, light vanilla, light caramel malt and light toffee. Similar flavor, quite sour, fruity and tart with a light vinous, light funky finish. Medium body with a crisp, puckering mouth feel. Funky grape beers can be weird, but this is just delicious!

Bottle thanks to Rainer. Pours a dark copper with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong grape skin, wood, leather. Thin mouth, nice fruity grape, vinous, great amount of sourness, really enjoyed this and suprised how much fruit was in this.
