Bottle from Capones. Somewhat clear mahogany with a faint copper head that completely disappears. Sour malty mash with some aguava, tannin, burnt molasses, acidic, mild carbonation and full bodied, dried sour plum rinds with more barrel coming through. Bottle. Tequila aroma with notes of red wine, vanilla, oak, lime citrus and some funk. Pours caramel colored with a thin off white head that has little retention or lacing. Starts with strong tequila flavors with notes of lime, lemon and some vinous red wine. Finishes dry and quite tart with vanilla, oak and funk with the citrus flavors sticking to the palate after each sip. Interesting sour, but quite enjoyable. Unexpectedly sweet malt nose backed up by sour yeast and hints of cab. Looks are okay, pouring a clear reddish-brown with a slight head and no lace. Not a bad sour by any means, but seems to be lacking in any prevailing trait other than its powerful sourness. Cabernet notes are apparent, along with hints of oak and vanilla struggling mightily against the super-strong citric-berry tartness, yet the tequila’s a no-show, maybe showing up for the slightest bit of herbal bitterness on the finish. Dark amber, light foam small bubbles, gently sparkling after confusion. Aroma barrel, teqila present, wine present.
In taste, strongly acidic, lactose. Velvety, catchy. It is a bit of bitterness at the end of tongue. Unfortunately the barrel later drops off somewhere.
