Sampled at Stone’s Oakquinox 2010. Pours black with practically no head at all. Aroma of earthy roasted malts with light booze in the nose. Flavor has dark semi-burnt malt tones, barrel, and some syrupy sweetness. Surprisingly light mouthfeel but quite smooth. (11, 290) wetherel (1888) - Cupertino, California, USA - MAY 5, 2010

Guest tap at DLD 2010. Pours pitch black with small tan head. Aromas of bourbon, sweet chocolate, dark fruits, light coffee and some booze. Flavors of bourbon, chocolate, booze, some dark fruits, and just a smidge of coffee. Mouthfeel was thick and oily. Can really taste the bourbon barrel in this one. Big flavorful stout. On draft at Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens for Oakquinox (Escondido, CA): Pours blackest black and topped with an extremely thin, bubbly tan head. Nose of bourbon, charred oak, caramel malts, vanilla, light black coffee, and milk chocolate. Flavors are similar. Silky mouthfeel, a bit thin at times, and a smooth drying finish coupled with light heat. Drinkability: Fairly out of the ordinary. Pairing: Flat iron steak marinated in aged Irish whiskey. Rebuy: Yes. #415 on 20042010, DG. potbeerjob (1343) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAR 14, 2010
Draught. Black with nonexistent head. Aroma of bourbon, very sweet chocolate, leather, light coffee and some notes of fruit (pear). Taste is sweet chocolate, boozy bourbon, very rich almost creamy. Palate is oily and has medium carbonation. Exceptional, and in my mind better than plain black tot. thefle (167) - , New Jersey, USA - FEB 22, 2010
