Pour on tap at Avery Strong Ale 2012, dark brownish black pour with thin off white head, aroma brought notes of slight spicy heat, touch of smoke and chocolate, very slight hint of bourbon and a touch of dark fruits, some slight earth as well. Taste is a mix of slight smoke and chilis, but mainly some slight bourbon, touch of roast, dark fruits and chocolate, finishing fairly sweet, hint of heat.

Tap at Avery. Pours clear brown with a small, fizzy light tan head with short retention and light lacing. Aroma is light toast and caramel malt, spicy chilies, smoke, and earthy hops. Flavor is malt forward with chilies, smoke, dark fruity esters, oak and bourbon with a sweet finish. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation.

BSAF ’12. Amazed at the array of aromas and flavors put off by this brew. Bourbon, oak, plenty of smoke, and spicy chilies flowing through every sniff and sip. Wholly original and totally badass.

At 2012 Avery Strong Ale Fest. Murky brownish copper, with a thin filmy head. Interesting aroma of smoked sausage, green pepper, and some grease. Taste is pretty meaty with smokey undertones, some charred toffee, spicy green pepper, and more sausage. Super unique. Pretty much tasted like spicy sausage. Gentle heat burn in the back of the throaght.

On tap at Avery poured a clear reddish brown with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of bourbon, smoke, oak, brown sugar and chilies. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry warming finish. Flavors of chilies, smoke and carmel with a smooth dry warming lingering smokey chilie finish.

Boulder Strong Ale Fest. Reddish brown appearance with a tan head. BBQ smoky, a touch peaty, oaky, lightly spicy, celery aroma. Mildly spicy chili, veggie, meaty smoky, okay, light whiskey flavor. Kind of a mess.
