Tap. Pours murky dark brown with average, creamy beige head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, chili peppers, smoked pork, spicy hops, light figs, and light caramel. Flavor is roast malt and peppers forward with spicy hops, dark fruit esters, brown sugar, and light cocoa; great, subtle chili pepper spice throughout with a dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation. Ratman197 (14830) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - JAN 28, 2013
On tap at Avery poured a clear dark reddish brown nearly black with a lasting brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, dark chocolate and chilies. Palate was mediuum bodied and smooth with a warming finish. Flavors ofroasted malt, dark chocolate, chilies and earthiness with a smooth warming lingering roasty chocolate finish. wchesser (2073) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 18, 2013
Dark black with no head and minimal lacing. Dusty and spicy red chili nose with sweet dark malts. Taste is up front chili heat and sweet dark roast malt. Not as good or complex as the regular Czar, but well done. What is a really neat trick is the heat and alcohol don’t make the other standout more-impressive for an 11.2% brew.
