Draft. Dark brown beer with reddish highlights and a big dark-cream colored head. Light boozy, fruity aroma. Fruity, light shiskey flavor with wine, fruit, and caramel malt. Medium bodied. Easy drinking - the alcohol is well hidden. Great complexity. Fruit lingers with malt, light whiskey, and wine. Wine adds more than the whiskey. 3fourths (9358) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - OCT 7, 2008
UPDATED: APR 6, 2011 2008 GABF week @ Avery. Unfiltered brown body with a medium sized dark tan head. Forward nose full of woody, crusty toasted bread, some spicy balsamic notes that mimic Flanders red fairly well, and some dark candied fruit, vanilla, and roast as well. Vibrant and fresh on the tongue, rich and lush cookies, vinegar, dry/tannic wood, some charred berries... impressively good stuff all around. Thick and viscous, and while the alcohol is a little too high, it really only overwhelms in the long finish. Prickly acidity up front, smooth and thick in the back. Impressive stuff.
