This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

Deep dark brown appearance with mininal head but great lacing. This brew really surprised me. It was handed to me in a glass, and I was firmly convinced it was a rather low body stout. I was wrong, it was actually a brown ale. In true Avery fashion, they took a normal brown ale and went big. This was all around solid.

355ml bottle. Clear, dark mahogany colour with ruby glimmer and small, thick, creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Toasty, nuttily malty aroma, hints of Brazil nut, nougat, milk chocolate, a cautious fruity hoppy touch of red berries. Taste is slightly sweet, toasty, nuttily malty, hints of hazelnut, Brazil nut, a touch of vanilla and red berries. I can see the quality but still not really chum up with the style.

Almost no head at all. Dark brown coloured beer. Aroma is dark chocolate, liqourice, raisins and nutty. Hints of brown sug ar and vanilla. Pleasant but a bit weak! Taste is slightly bitter coffee, dark chocolate and nuts. A lot more simple than the aroma. Even weaker than the aroma. A bit watery but very drinkable! Overall: First brown ale Ive ever had and only tried it because I heard good things about this one, so not really sure how to rate it. Actually not dissappointed because I can totally see myself pairing this with a suitable meal. Like the idea of a drinkable dark ale. A bit too weak like I said above but I think that adds to the food-pairing potential.
