4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
sampled @ the 18th Anniversary fest. 1rst brew of the day.... Pours a deep, mostly hazed orange with a faint reddish hue. Tart nose with tree fruits and soured berries. Medium tart on the palate.
Tap at Avery Black Eye release. Pours brown with orange hues. Aroma is lactic, winey, earthy, grape, plums. Taste is very winey, light to medium bodied, very lacto, good fruit. Great beer. ansermadide (1526) - Kyle, Texas, USA - NOV 25, 2013
Cloudy yellow-orange in color with a bubbly, bright white head. its nose is sour, much like a sour green apple. I’m not a big fan of sour ales, and this one is very hard to stomach. It’s very soft on the tongue and dominates the palate with that character defined by those crazy basket stores that my mother used to drag me into at the mall when I was ten. The grapes definitely play into the flavor and sourness, with grapes and wood complimenting the sour ale very well. SmokeyDaBear (150) - - NOV 2, 2013
Taster poured at Avery Taproom for GABF. Head dissipated quickly. Nucleation is present on the sides of glass. I can taste the cab and zin barrels that were used. This is an amazing sour! Absolutely delicious. Brouwerij (959) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - OCT 26, 2013
Tap at Avery. Pours a murky maroon brown with small, quickly settling khaki head, no lacing. Aroma is tart, lactic/acidic, oaky, vinous, plum, cherry. Flavor is moderately tart, cherry, stone fruit, with a buttery, oaky, strong vinous finish. This is fruitier than the others I’ve tried from the Eremita series, more like a sour red/brown. Nice balance. Moderate carbonation, light body, crisp texture, and dry finish. Really enjoyed this one. kevinator (2867) - The Colony, Texas, USA - OCT 11, 2013
Nice blend. Sour fruit aroma with some wine essence. Crisp dry palate that leaned toward the lighter side. Copper color with a small head. The sour was up front but not too strong. Some acidity with the Cabernet flavor and feel being the strongest. The Zinfandel added a little sweetness at the end. Worth a try if you can catch it at the brewery .

(Draught) cloudy red/amber, off white head. Nose is acetic acid, tart fruit, lactic, yogurt, wet wood, super vinegary. Taste is very similar, quite vinegary, lactic, acetic, caramel, cranberry, other tart berries and a mild mineral/metallic quality in the finish as well as off the initial pour. Special tapping at Avery's for GABF 2013.
A dark brown amber pour, with dark cream head. Very sour aroma to Mach the unbelievable sour taste. One of my favorite sours by far. Steve_0 (3818) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUN 4, 2012
Tap at 3rd Annual Boulder SourFest (06-02-2012). Poured a deep amber with a glowing red tint and little-to-no head. Beautiful looking beer. Aroma is grape, muscat, oak, tannin, light funk, and cherry. Taste is very sour cherry, wood, light barnyard, and grape/muscat. A light hint of vinegar in the background, as well. Body was light with medium carbonation. Delicious. sonnycheeba (6561) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JUN 2, 2012
Tap. Pours clear brown with thin, fizzy beige head; short retention and minimal lacing. Aroma is sour fruit, bread malt, funk, figs, leather, grassy notes, and spice. Flavor is sour fruit esters upfront with supporting bread and sweet malts and light earthy notes; dry finish. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth. ROGUE (2216) - Lewes, Delaware, USA - JAN 10, 2012
On tap at Avery taproom (GABF 2011). Pours a deep hazy copper color with a creamy two finger whitish head that has excellent retention and slowly fades to a cap. Tart on the nose, with aromas of barnyard funk, oak and caramel. Initial tart flavor that is not overly sour, followed by toasted oak, vanilla and vinous dark fruit. Hints of grape, sour dark cherry and a lingering light vinegary finish. Full bodied with a slight creamy texture.
