Nose: lots of Cab characteristics--black currant, mint. Mild caramelly oak.arminjewell (9661) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JUL 10, 2012
Mouth: Follows through on the nose, very Cab like. Reminds me of some of the dry sparkling red wines I’ve had, just a little more watery and acidic. Pretty tasty, and fairly well balanced. Usually I find Avery a little heavy handed, and this was quite nice.
Pour on tap at Avery Sourfest 2012, dark reddish almost brown pour with thin off white head, aroma brought notes of lots of red grape, tart fruits, hints of oak, lemon, tart berry, hints of dusty and earthy funk, more grape as well in the end of the aroma. Taste is a nice mix of red berry with red grape, some caramel and toffee go into a lactic lemon, some funky basement, finishing fairly tart and dry with a wine-like finish. Has some big grape and sour funk on the nose with a little barrel character. Pours a murky reddish brown color with no head. Taste has a big grape presence and has some nice wine attributes, has a bubbly mouth feel with a dry finish.
