This dangerously drinkable garnet beauty is a hop lover’s delight. The intense dry-hop nose and the alcohol content are perfectly balanced for a caramel candy-like malt finish. This is a serious beer for serious beer afficionados and it only gets better with age. Cellarable for 3 years.

22 oz. bottle. pours a nice amber hue with tight small head. aroma of subtle citrus amd caramel malt. starts semi sweet lending way to a piny citrus hop flavor then finishing well balanced and slightly astringent with warming alcohol. not as complex as some barley wines but still a solid beer.

Classic bears, effortlessly quenching. I could buy three or four sets of these and be set. I don’t quite know what it is about an Imperial Red--this might’ve been the first one I’ve had--but it was exceptional. You get this dark amber hue and you don’t know quite what to expect--and then you drink it, and you’re utterly shocked! What is this? Perhaps I really like red beers, but this has to be the best one I’ve tasted. The cover is also great. Perfect ABV, I hope they keep this beer around.

12 oz. can. Pours an amber color with a slightly off-white cap of foam. Aroma is mostly malt with a little bit of hops and some alcohol. Medium body. Flavor is mostly sweet with some hops in the background. Finish is a little dry with more hops present. Average.

Beautiful, flavorful, & smooth! Pours orange w/ a fluffy white head & excellent lacing. The aroma is a lovely balance between malt & hop. This is true for the taste as well. The dry earthy hops are presence throughout but the malt compliments them perfectly making this beer quite drinkable. It has a caramel bite with only a medium body making it go down easy. Terrific!

12floz can, COD: 03.28.2017, paid about $12 for a four-pack, poured and consumed from a pint glass. A good looking beer; amber in color, body has clarity, and there is nice tan head leaving specks behind. The aroma is what goes into it, malts and hops combine to produce a carnival of caramel-apple and cotton candy aromas sprinkled with pine needle dust. Robustly flavored and tense full-bodied texture, which tastes like burnt caramel and pine.

12oz can from Reid Market. (This beer is marketed as an imperial red ipa.) Toasted nutty aromas, red grape, red berries, caramel. Clear ruby with a mostly lasting off-white head. Mostly dry, some booze, bitter, earthy, nutty. Full bodied.

Pale copper pour with a light reddish hue, soapy white head and lots of sticky lacing .... aroma of juicy fruits, chewy caramel malts and light roasted malts .... taste is of chewy caramel malts, toffee and light roasted malts .... has some citrusy hop oranges mostly with very light pine and resinous hop oils .... finish is citrusy with lingering chewy caramel malts and toffee ... nice bitter hop bite on the back end ... mouthfeel is slick and oily .... body is medium ... abv hidden well

Bottle 650ml @ home
Pours slightly hazy copper with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, alcohol, dried fruits, orange and citrus. Taste is medium sweet and heavy bitter with a long warm, malty, caramel, bitter, orange and citrus finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

22 oz bottle as "Barley wine style ale" shared by ebone1988. 2016 vintage. The pour is a dirty, muddy, orangey ruby color with a thick bubbly cream colored head and a pretty strong soapy lace. The aroma is just not good. There is a bitter hoppiness to it and a horribly balanced sweet malt that turns into an alcoholic mess. The flavor is awful. There is a sweet potato heaviness and a metallic bit. The back end is like a metallic pepper garbage with a horrific aftertaste. The mouth feel is thin and watery with a bright carbonation and a dreadful metallic pepper aftertaste. This is garbage.

America. Rating #1776. Bottle shared with koleminer20. For the book. Aroma is grapefruit, malty, slight booze, pine, bitter, interesting. Appearance is amber, light tan head, clear. Taste is caramel malt, very hoppy, pine, citrus, tropical fruit, booze, bitter, harsh. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, harsh bitter caramel and booze aftertaste. Overall, it’s really bitter but I’ve had worse.

jflopsu (1625) - New Jersey, USA - MAY 3, 2017
Pours a clear dark ruby red with tan head. A strong caramel malt and fruity aroma. A strong malty and hoppy taste with caramel, fruits, citrus and pine. A lingering bitter hop and sweet malt aftertaste.
