Enjoyed at the Avery Taproom in Boulder, CO during GABF week, 2009. 2007 version. Dark orange pour. Lightly sour orange and lemon aroma. Excellent sour citrus flavor. Oily, slick mouthfeel. Oaky nose with a slight brett-like funk aroma. Murky amber in color. Sweet, cherry, sour and woody flavors. Refreshing.

On tap at the Falling Rock. A real sturdy looking amber beer, but has no head at all. Lots of oak and cabernat character comes throught in the nose and flavor. Medium body with a chokingly dry finish. I really liked this beer a lot. Walt (2449) - Austin, Texas, USA - OCT 15, 2006
Pour is hazey amber with a small dense off white head...smell is slightly woody strongly alcoholic and malty too...taste is sweet and malty with lots of wood flavors...my favorite of the 3...

On draft @ Falling Rock during ’06 GABF weekend Oak, red wine, and alcohol aroma with some malt and dark fruits. Smells really f’in good. Taste, initially, is dark brown sugar, molasses, dark caramel, dark fruits, and oak followed by oak, tart fruits, and mild alcohol, bracing tartness, and tannins. A little alcohol burn at the finish. On tap at the Falling Rock. Hazy gold/amber pour...smallish off-white head. Lotsa malt in the nose...woody, toasty, caramel, maybe a little fruity. Draft at Falling Rock. Very malty, very subdued Belgian spices, almost burnt caramel, medium tannins fresh cut lumber, flowers, cinnamon. A weird spin, but I like it. The barrel aging seems to have replaced the normal reverends sweetness and maltiness with a tannic quality that I think improves the beer. Nice. At brewery (young) and at the Boulder Strong Ale Fest (aged much more): Some of the differences I noticed (warning, some made-up words here): Sweetness has richified a bit. Aromas have complexified. Olfactory evidence of sweet wine, wafty vanilla, sugar-drenched wood, honeysuckle flowers, herbs and light spices. Very pleasant beer. Draft @ Falling Rock: Hazy brown amber color. Nice vinous notes of red wine over sweet yeasty malt. Grapey notes. Medium bodied with a good warming sensation.
