COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our winter ale has a gorgeous mahogany hue, a hint of hazelnuts, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee. No spices, just a perfect blend of five specialty malts. Cellarable for 3+ years.

Dark red, with a nice thick head that stuck around for a while. Spicy/hoppy aroma. Malty, a little caramel. Not a very strong taste. Not a bad beer.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2007 2003 - Dark red with a thick coated head. Smells is a very fresh and robust cherry and wood and alcohol. Creamy and thick with a milk-like texture and some nice dark cherry and charred wood flavors. Really an excellent winter beer with some bourbon flavors coming through towards the end.

Bottle. Very malty and raisiny at first, really sticky varnishy/resiny sort of flavour, heaps of hops and spice towards the end, really concentrated and overly sweet, pretty thick.

Pretty ruby brown, relatively clear appearance. Head is foamy and fuzzy, like a tan cashmere sweater. Smell is sweet, caramel and cherries, not much else. NIce and strong flavor punch. Roasted, bitter hops, almost astringent, coupled with sweet malt, chocolate, winter spices, earth and a tad of alcohol. Aftertaste is sweet and roasty. Decent beer, but I donít know about this 92% rating.

On tap, dark brown, tan head, aroma of caramel, roasted nuts, and coffee, flavor is less impressive, some malts and caramel but just didnt all come together for me, decent and drinkable but not a favorite

Pours brownish red with a thin tan head. Aroma is slight coffee and dark malts. Shows some signs of infection in the aroma with a slight but noticable wet cardboard and garbage smell. Flavor is a mild coffee and a mild spice.

Very clear dark brown with an off white head. Carmel malts but not much else in the aroma. Flavor is mostly roasted and sweet carmel malt, quite sweet, almost too much. There is a good finish and presense.

Georgious dark and auburn colours, lasting head. Moderate spicey aroma. Intense taste, well carbonated. Well to drink with spicey food. Good malts throughout to balance out the flavour, and noticeable hops. Dry finish. Citrus and cherry and vegetable aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours a murky ruby-shaded brown. Nose is nutty and chocolaty. Bit of toffee and dried fruits. Says no spice but itís aroma makes you think differently. Taste is bittersweet, with flowery hops, cocoa, hint of cinnamon, toffee, dried fruits, hazelnut coffee, and a hint of brown sugar. Thereís too much lingering hoppiness in this and normally itís never a detractor. In this, though, itís not working for me. Body is medium with a mild carbonation feel. Thereís more lingering hoppiness throughout this one. Finishes with cocoa, light alcohol coming through, melon, light citrus, toffee, and hazelnut coffee. Not as good as Iíd have hoped, but still very drinkable.

I expected a rich and sweet beer. This beer is neither but still good. Aroma is surprisingly coffee and oatmeal. Dark brown with a thick white head. Very dry flavor, very much like a bitter or malty brown ale. Dry in the finish as well. Alcohol is hidden.
