Our winter ale has a gorgeous mahogany hue, a hint of hazelnuts, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee. No spices, just a perfect blend of five specialty malts. Cellarable for 3+ years.

Pours a dark cranberry juice red. with small tan head. Aroma is malty, with nuts and woods. Flavor similar, malty and a little wood to it, grapes, a little choclate/sweetness. Very interesting, and flavorful. Thanks to JPDipso for this one.

Mahogany body with light tan head. Toasted coffee and chocolate nose. Light maltiness with a slight roasted malt bitterness in the finish.

15 June 2005. Bottle. Very little head; a touch on the dark side for a barleywine. Mouthfeel is soft and slippery - nice. Funny cherry cola flavor and, oddly, a little coffee. Definitely sweet - lots of malts showing through. Hops are present, but not too biting. This is good, but not as strong a showing as some of Avery’s other beers.

framebender (56) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - NOV 5, 2005
Good solid ale but not something I would insist on buying or drinking again. Gentle hop aroma with similiar taste. Balanced malt that is almost unnoticable and just enough hops to taste them but not overpowering or bold. Smooth balanced solid ale.

Bottled. Clear red coloured with a medium sized off white head. Sweet aroma with notes of fruits and spices with flowery notes. Sweet fruity flavour with notes of mlats and caramel. Hoppy finish.

wilkie (1208) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - DEC 3, 2005
Draught. Brown appearance, with a lasting off-white head. Hoppy nose, with citrus and some malt. Flavor is very hoppy, and a little roasty in finish. Grass in aftertaste. Could be a nice beer, but the hopwreck kind of kills all of the other flavors that are supposed to be there.

TheCaptMatey (214) - Ohio, USA - DEC 7, 2014
Poured a dark red to brown colour with a thin white head. Aroma is quite malty with dark fruits and caramel/ coffee notes. Flavor is a sweet malt mixture of nuts and dark fruits with a bit of hop bitterness. Not much of coffee in flavor, but enjoyable none the less.
