This big, roasty stout takes flavor to the extreme. We arent afraid to use plenty of rich roasted barley and a mountain of hops to give this full-bodied stout that little extra something youve been looking for in a beer.

I really enjoyed this stout. Great with a smoked turkey sandwich on pumpernickel. Roast and coffee aromas dominate with touches of chocolate in the back. Deep black with a tan head, slightly syrupy. Roast espresso and chocolate bitter with a touch of hop bite and just enough residual malt sweetness. Medium full bodied with a bitter dry finish.

Bottled on 7/11/16. Served from bottle into glass at home. Pours deep black, completely opaque, with a small short lived but still velvety tawny colored head. Aroma full of roasted malt, lightly burnt toast and a little dark chocolate. No detectable hop aroma. More dark roasted malt flavor with bittersweet chocolate. No detectable hop flavor. Medium bitterness, medium carbonation and a dry finish. No alcohol flavor detected. Full bodied with a smooth creamy texture. The bottle label describes large amounts of hops used in the brewing but that is undetectable in the glass, although this may just be a matter of age. Overall this beer has an uncomplicated straightforward aroma and flavor but a great mouthfeel and finish.

Excellent stout with low ABV velocity. Too mild to be interesting, but the exact taste and mouthfeel you want. Dark and roasty with character. Unfortunate that it is so low as to be a bit pointless. I guess I want all stouts to be around 10%, preferably 11. Good picture on front of can, very mild. A quaint picture of what a great stout should be, you paid your ticket for a preview. Altogether, one of the more decent canned stouts selling, doesnt give off that watery feeling like you got ripped off because its not a thick stout. I think stouts should pour like coffee mixed with a chocolate shake, left in the dimmest darkest well to magically age into something better--which you actually get from this. Cant go wrong if youre not looking for a lot of fun--such as the 9% and beyond classics.

O- Pretty roasty and bitter. A straightforward stout with no extra foo foo flavors. If you want traditional, here you go. Not my favorite stout, but not bad.

Whats going on here. My reviews keep getting swallowed by the net.

Pours a near cola color. Dark. About two fingers cocoa head. Good retention, good lacing.

Aroma is coffee grounds, light chocolate. Some fig, some cherry. Some char and smoke, good dose of dark roasted malt. Oh, and coffee.

Taste is mostly coffee, not so much chocolate. Pretty sweet overall, save for some coffee-like bitterness. Malty. Tasty.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Creamy and smooth mostly, but a surprising blast of alcohol bitter burn at the very end into the swallow. Thats a little unpleasant.

Overall,a good stout. Id drink and buy it again. Id recommend it, particularly for a dark beer. Theyre not so bad.....

Pours from can a deep chocolate bordering on black, so dark its almost opaque but does show clear burgundy highlights against the light. Medium tan head diminishes steadily but does leave some lacing and a bit of skim. To get any hint of complexity, either from the aroma or on the palate, this beer must be served close to room temperature. Too much chill shuts it down. Avery does deserve some credit for reining in the alcohol to 6.5 percent ABV while still attempting to live by the debatable credo that "bigger is better." The initial nose is just roasted to charred malt and some coffee. That improves somewhat with aeration and a temperature rise, but still doesnt present many other notes. The palate adds bitter chocolate and just a hint of licorice, but they take a while to emerge as the char subsides and the coffee moderates from ready to toss to drinkable. A bit of creaminess boosts the rather thin body, while hop sourness is not needed for what is otherwise a nicely dry finish. In a world full of good stouts, this one seems tailored to the West Coast USA taste niche.

Opaque black but a fair amount of carbonation visible on the side of the glass. Thin head that stays around for quite a while. Aroma is mostly coffee and cocoa. Flavor is roasty malts. Simple and clean -- a nice alternative to the "bigger is better" craze in the stout world.

Bottle from the Beergium Web Shop. Black pour with a beige head. Aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee, cocoa, sweet malt. Flavours of dark chocolate, coffee, sweet dark malts, licorice. Dry, bitter approach in the aftertaste. Exceedingly good stout.
