Behold the stunning crimson hues through the inky blackness. Inhale the noble Hallertau hops, spicy and floral. Savor the flavors redolent of English toffee, rich mocha, sweet molasses, candied currants and a hint of anise. We highly recommend cellaring additional bottles, as the Czar will continue to mature and become denser and more complex with age.

22 Oz bottle pour split at Brouwers Cafe. 2009 vintage. Pours black with a bubbly short lived head. Caramel malt and plum raisin aroma. Bran aroma, and quite boozy, though not quite in a bad way. Toasty finish. Big Stout. Enjoyable, fun beer to try. Unique for sure. Hope to find a fresh version soon. Tasty.

2003 bottle at the Ultimate Imperial Stout Tasting, kindly shared by beerlover_ben. This one has gone over its limit, too old. What is left is a dusty version of a big stout. There are some red fruits left, as well as some ligh chocolate notes. Still enjoyable, but needs to be shared. Interesting.

Bottle at the Ultimate Imperial Stout Tasting. Thnx for the awesome day, folks! This bottle was shared by Beerlover_ben . 2003 edition. Pours rather clear, yet super dark brown. No real head. Smell is port and madeira, sweet. Taste is boozy, port, bit plastic. OK, but not great.

This brew is one of my ultimate favorites. Ive tried so many Avery beers and finally found one I will always buy if I can find it in stock somewhere. This brew is deep, rich and amazing. So high gravity that it does make my heart skip a beat. This brew should be taken slowly, over a prolonged period. It does challenge ones physiology in several ways. Not a bad idea to chase it with ice water and have some insulin handy if your pancreas is not up to speed. This is an entire meal in a bomber.

Bottle shared at Olbutikken. Pours dark brown with a ring tan head. Aroma of big malt, light roast, overripe dark fruits and booze. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Too boozy and thin for the style.

Deep black with heavy khaki head. Nose of roasted malt dark fruit and licorice. Flavor follows suit with grainy roast, raisin/fig and licorice. Lingering bitter chocolate and acidic dark fruit.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2015 2014 variety with stated 8.5% abv. Tan to brown head which isn?t foamy but is liquidy. Dark dark brown to black with red hues in light. The nose is, honestly, magnificent. Chocolate goes without saying (that seems to be required on a stout) but the hazelnut and toffee are, in a word, enticing. Perhaps a bit sweet? That?s the only issue I can come up with. The layers of flavor are exceptional. This is one for the shortlists out there.

Upon pour this stout looks promising. Dark near-black color with a nice dense khaki head. Smells of chocolate, mocha coffee, roasted nuts with just a hint of spice with a boozy undertone. Sipping this slowly I get the obvious cocoa/chocolate notes with some licorice/rye, coffee, toasted almond with some nice warming alcohol on the back end. Really an all around fantastic imperial stout.
