Originally sampled on 12/8/08. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malts and slight hints of cherries. Appearance was dark black body mid sized light tan cap. Good mouthfeel, creamy and it had a little thickness. Flavors were o.k. nothing outstanding, and it was a little sweet. Overall it was a decent imp. stout. Tap. Thick, fine, tan head on black. Dull and cloudy. Fruity nose, berries, chocolate, marmalade, cola. Rich flavor, fruit and umami, miso, citrus. Noble hops, chocolate, vanilla. Weird stuff, a bit like stanky natto.

Batch No. 14 November 2015 10.1%
Pours black with a thin tan head. The aroma is heavy. It has chocolate, whiskey, cherry, licorice, and hints of coffee, with the whiskey and cherry standing out most. The taste is sweet and very boozy. Here I find the noted whiskey, along with chocolate, vanilla, spices (Belgian?), cherry, mild coffee, and a touch of raisin. The aftertaste is a long lasting combination of chocolate, vanilla, and alcohol. This is heavy in body, has a thick texture, and has minimal carbonation. This is a good heavy stout, though I believe I might like it better if it wasn’t so sweet. The portrait of Tsar Nicholas II on the bottle is cool. k0mpsa (3042) - Tuusula, FINLAND - JAN 19, 2016
