COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Behold the stunning crimson hues through the inky blackness. Inhale the noble Hallertau hops, spicy and floral. Savor the flavors redolent of English toffee, rich mocha, sweet molasses, candied currants and a hint of anise. We highly recommend cellaring additional bottles, as the Czar will continue to mature and become denser and more complex with age.

Pour: Pinky finger of Medium khaki colored head that only stuck around for a minute Look: Nice Creamy foam buildup on top. Constant carbonation. When swirled it foams up but falls back in quickly. Black as night. Smell: Chocolate Raisens Prunes Wond smell. Sweet. So much chocolate Smells similar to the aroma that eminates when you make your own invert sugar (Belgian Candi Sugar). Taste: Wow! Really thick. Chocolate is the first thing you’ll notice. Taste the raisens. There is a tobacco flavor to it. I can taste the alcohol. It’s not overwhelming, but it’s definitely there. It actually suites this beer well. The sweetness and the warming from the alcohol are a nice combination. Verdict: It’s not the best Imperial stout, but it is extremely good. I give this a B+. It’s good. Not great. But I’d definitely have another without any argument. Worth the Money?: It’s worth what I paid for it ($6.99 for 22oz). It was an enjoyable experience. I’d pay that for this again.

My bomber from Santa Fe says it is from Batch 14, November 2015 with an abv of 10.1%. So there you go, it is my story and I am sticking to it. Into my preferred-for-stouts Buffalo Bayou snifter the pour goes. I see the expected dark, essentially black liquid topped a moderate cocoa colored head. The nose is different, I get chocolate and ribbon candy. The taste is better than the smell. There is chocolate, espresso, a firm malt kick and a tinge of fruit, maybe strawberry of all things. Pretty decent I think, it is an imperial stout, but I have others I much prefer like Ten FIDY or Yeti. Way different.

Tiny pour from a bottle at a tasting. Consumed on 9-23-17. 2011 edition. Pours a very dark amber to dark brown. Small amount of beige head. Sweet, port wine aroma. This beer seems to hold up well to its six years of aging. Quite nice taste. Chocolate milk to milk chocolate flavor. Medium body, light for the style. 8.3.7.3.14=>3.5

Piana średnio obfita, po chwili opada do chmurki. Barwa ciemno brązowa, prawie czarna. W zapachu wiśnie w czekoladzie, kawa, rodzynki w rumie, masło... W smaku miodowo słodkie, głównie mleczna czekolada, śliwki, jakieś przyprawy i ajerkoniak. Goryczka niska, ziołowo alkoholowa. Niskie wysycenie, oleiste i mdłe w odbiorze.

Ewidentnie jest tu wyczuwalny jakiś obcy, przeszkadzający posmak, poza tym diacetyl i nie do końca ułożony alkohol. Ogólnie spory zawód.

Bottle, Batch 16, 10.6%. Dark brown, off white head. Nose is roast, liquorice, chocolate, tar. Tastes sweet roasted malts, liquorice, hint of salted liquorice, molasses, toffee. Full, complex, great balance. Excellent stuff, traditional.

Batch no. 16, Nov. 2016, alc. 10.6%. A black beer, a head is quite small and light brown. Aroma has richness of malts, roastiness, melassie, caramel, liquorice. Taste has maltyness, liquorice, sweetness of caramel, balanced and quite strong bitterness. Full bodied, smooth palate. Complex, based on huge maltyness, old-fashioned or meant traditional. Very tasteful and powerful.

hauxe (969) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - AUG 1, 2017
Pours virtually black from the bottle. The foamy tan slowly fades. Aroma is chocolate, plum, port wine, nail polish. Taste is bittersweet, lots of licorice, cough drop, chocolate. Body is heavy, carbonation is mild. Pretty good. (SWI++)
