Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Can. Slightly murky amber with a cream head. Aroma is pretty subdued but nice enough with tenor-register citrus (grilled grapefruit, kumquat), sugar plums, pine. Full bodied but nicely short of sticky, carbonation is lowish but enough to lighten things. The citrus pops much more and carries the heavy sweetness well, as well as helps the strong bitterness and drying finish emerge from the sweetness like an obvious progression. Some pine and pepper there too. The finish makes it for me.

Not much aroma that I could detect. Appearance semi opaque amber, poured from a bottle with a decent head and lacing. Relatively high alcohol level was nicely concealed under a smooth palette, and smooth hops as well. Mildly bitter with not as much bite as expected, but that was not necessarily a bad thing. Nothing really distinctive but nevertheless very enjoyable. What stood out to me was its smoothness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

DATE: July 11, 2017... OCCASION: watching the All-Star game and needed an accompaniment... GLASSWARE: Maudite snifter... pours a dark amber body with palpably active effervescence... its white head thickens and remains a finger thick, which arches of coral reaching up and around... loads of tangerine and grapefruit invade the nostrils, with watermelon, tangerine, and passion fruits... herbal accents like ginger, rye and bourbon suggest a robust profile... first sip is warm but smooth, chunky and substantial... sweet honey, tangerine, watermelon, boozy sweetness, with caramel, bread malts and a late charge of citrus... small resin too boot...a lethal cocktail of hops that lifts the spirits in a soft, inviting package... the Maharaja sneaks up on his constituent before shiving him with fruity hops and a smile while doing so....

Although it does finish nice and dry for 10% the flavors of this beer are a bit too sweet. Subtle caramelized pineapple, candied fruit, lollies, honey, grapefruit, strawberry and melon are overpowered by a dominant sugary/candy malt sweetness. Leaning towards English style IPA flavors. Not my kind of Imperial IPA. Reminds of the confectionery like malt profile of Deschutes IPAs - will appeal to sweet tooth’s

Can @ oliver twist Stockholm. Pours a golden colour beer with a small head. Hoppy and fruity with notes of caramel and sweet alcohol. Dry finish.

Can at home. Canned on 2016/12/14. Hazy amber with white head. Big sweet malts with excessive resiny and fruity hops. Caramel, resin, pineapple, grass, nettles, grilled onions, oats, chalk, biscuits, sweetend orange tea. Big sweet and firm yet softened bitterness. Full body, juicy feel, soft and foamy carbonation. Nice and probably amazing when fresh.

This beer is so good it makes you want to smack your bartender for not serving it to you earlier. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a mild hazy light amber-color with some orange highlights. The head is a medium sized off-white color. The aroma is mostly grapefruit with some earthy notes tossed in. The taste is similar to the nose.

Psytron (2285) - Turku, FINLAND - MAY 31, 2017
No smell. Copper colour, white head. Aroma of alcohol, oak, whisky, spruce, hops. Bitter with alcohol sweetness. Oily texture. A bit of a disappointment, considering Avery overall.
