COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Golden amber pour with a cream colored head. Smells like a grapefruit with some malt. Starts out with a taste of citrus followed by a light malt/pine body. Finishes with citrus/line flavor as the malt fades away. Hops and alcohol are very hidden.

Can @ The Bishops Arms Marina Plaza, Helsingborg 20170922. Hoppy, fruity and caramely, sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is dry, bitter and fruity.

Can from Jiyugaoka AEON Liquor. Pours nice amber, or light copper, whichever way you prefer to look at it. Not much foam or much carbonation. Nose is sweet, sweet, sticky with orange marmalade, light booze and some sugar-coated melon. Light hop bitterness as well, bit definitely malt-forward at this point. Taste has some more bitterness, but that sweet and sticky herbal orange marmalade is still very strong. Doesn't really feel like IPA, more like hoppy barleywine - which it probably actually is. Strong and boozy double IPA, balance is still good - but would have loved to try this beer when it was 6 months younger, that would have been something different I believe.

QFC Cork and Tap, Bellevue. Lingering cream, hop hazed deep orange body. Looks rich. Deep, rich hop on nose. Despite the weight, this tastes bright and balanced. Dank richness, deep caramel malt flavors. Very good.

12floz can, COD: 01.18.2017, $1.50 unit cost, pint glass. Orange-amber in color with lots of head stickiness. Caramel apple nose turns rose honey, biscuit, and pine mouth. Chewy, full-bodied beer that has huge flavor to mask the alcohol content. This may not be at its optimum for hoppiness, but that is okay. Balance is great as malts amply support the bitterness. One of my favorite DIPAs.

From bomber at home. Hazy golden orange with a thin off white head. Orange, citrus rind, pine resin, caramel. Thick oily texture with a full body. Loaded with dank bitterness, but enough malt balance to make this really top notch. Huge.

Pours a cloudy, darker golden with a medium white head. The aroma offers sweetness, with grapefruit, floral hops, pine, minor herbal tones, and some resin. Not surprising, the taste is sweet, while its also heavily bitter. Among the flavors, I find resin as the strongest, although there is a lot of grapefruit in here as well. Lesser impressions include mango, caramel, alcohol, and pine. Throughout the sip there is a potent herbal presence. Resiny, boozy aftertaste. Full bodied, with a thick, sticky texture, and some big carbonation. If sugary, powerful Imperial IPAs are your thing, then look no further.

Can from AQ, I was pretty sure I'd already rated this and had it before but this is the first time I've had one all to myself and also in my IPA glass rather than a snifter. The deep honey copper had a thick pillowy beige head that left copious lacing behind and also was blessed with impressive staying power. My initial sniff was honey and hops, the next one was semi-sweet dank resisnous pine. Full bodied, bitter pine with sweet fruity hop notes and superbly balanced. This is a bang on point Imperial IPA that nails the style and reminds you of all Avery can do with High ABV beers.

Bright and balanced IPA. The initial taste is an assault of hops, but the finish is smooth. Overall a great, well-balanced brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Turtles (2847) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - AUG 26, 2017
Canned @ Oliver Twist. Hazy amber, lasting head, rich lacing. Huge resinous, caramel sweet and pine bitter aroma. Full-bodied for sure, soft carbonation, sweet and silky mouthfeel. Bitter sweet taste, loads of caramel and toffee, pine and resin, citrus zest and sugar. This kind of sweetness really works with the bitter bite. The finish is long bitter and mid-dry. The alcohol is well hidden.

Excellent DIPA! Pours amber w/ a big white head & loads of lacing. The aroma has a lovely citrus hop & heavy malt blend. The flavor is pretty malt forward w/ just a bit of bitterness mixed in. The alcohol is fairly well hidden under the sweet malt & citrus hop taste. Goes down easy for high abv! Really good!
