Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Recent retry, intensely malty, then hops. Little citrus or floral. A big bold beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lots of hay, grass, lemongrass, a lil funk...the abv definitely goes unnoticed...not a whole lot of citrus, which is a plus for me. Creamy mouthfeel with a bitter background. Solid for sure.

Nice mix of sour (seems like an Avery feature), bitter and sour, seems a bit spiced, a bit of bread, aftertaste does not linger obnoxiously. oily, good

Pours hazy amberish golden with stable foamy beige head. Aroma: intense hop character, supported by malt backbone. Flavor follows aroma: intense citrusy, fruity hop character, hint of oily pine, resinous notes, tangerine and orange marmelade, supported by biscuity, caramel like malt backbone. Hop bitterness is high. Body is full, almost syrupy, texture smooth, carbonation moderate to medium. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, but after few minutes knocks you down.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2017 Pours a hazy amber coppered color with a very thin head. Very faint citrus aromas and a little pine behind. First taste feels thick and the high alcohol content is well balanced, but will surely be upfront once it warms a little. This is a great beer. Tastes of melon, peach and oh boy! Here comes the 10% alcohol content. This is a great beer.

Lätt disig orange öl med ett gulvitt skum. Doft av olika citrusfrukter, där grapefrukt framträder. Även en hel del karamell. I smaken tillkommer en kådabeska.

Intense, overripe, candied tropical fruits, mango, papaya, passion fruit, candied bitter orange, marmalade, tangerine, caramel, honey, pine, resin. Hazy, dark gold, medium, creamy, off-white head. Light bitter. More candied tropical and citrus fruits, mango, bitter orange, more pine, intense resin, alcohol, massive marmalade, soft carbonation, full bodied. Outstanding IIPA, old-fashioned, yet well-executed, rich and intense. Can from Milk & Hops Astor, Manhattan.

Can @ The Bishops Arms Marina Plaza, Helsingborg 20170922. Hoppy, fruity and caramely, sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is dry, bitter and fruity.

jinroh (2581) - ESTONIA - SEP 18, 2017
Can from Jiyugaoka AEON Liquor. Pours nice amber, or light copper, whichever way you prefer to look at it. Not much foam or much carbonation. Nose is sweet, sweet, sticky with orange marmalade, light booze and some sugar-coated melon. Light hop bitterness as well, bit definitely malt-forward at this point. Taste has some more bitterness, but that sweet and sticky herbal orange marmalade is still very strong. Doesn't really feel like IPA, more like hoppy barleywine - which it probably actually is. Strong and boozy double IPA, balance is still good - but would have loved to try this beer when it was 6 months younger, that would have been something different I believe.
