On tap at brewpub on 060913. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has lots of coffee, as it warms up dried fruits, caramel, malt and alcohol is coming through. Taste is coffee and bitter chocolate and sweet dark fruits and alcohol. Medium to full body with a soft carbonation, finish is light bitter chocolate and warming alcohol. On tap the brewery. Pour is pitch black with a frothy brown head and great lacing. Big coffee, chocolate, light bourbon, woody, vanilla, light anise, and licorice in the aroma. Taste is big dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla, big wood, dark fruits, toffee, and caramel with a little heat on the backend. Sticky mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Amazing stout and I can’t believe it’s that high in alcohol. Jvezp (86) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 13, 2013
Had it at the 2013EBF, great beer espresso beer, I was blown away by this offering by Avery, I’m happy I had the luck of drinking this. Had to rate it a 5 Marheb (5779) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 31, 2013
Hellsspresso!!!!!!

On draft at Churchkey in D.C.
Served alongside Avery Mephistopheles.
The beer is black with a quarter inch of oily, dark beige head. The aroma offers a potent dose of rich coffee, followed by light booze, roast, espresso, malt, chocolate. What a bold flavor! Rich and intense with a grand coffee presence. Alcohol warmth in the finish, but not nearly the heat I was expecting and even fearing from a beer of this stature. Full bodied with moderately low carbonation. A delightful brew to sip and savor. I’m so glad I finally came across this one. Delicious. johnnnniee (4312) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 22, 2013
On tap at EBF 3/16/13.
Smells of coffee in spades, but there is a roasty and caramel malty sweetness underneath that works really well to counter the bitter coffee flavor. the big abv is brilliantly masked, I love this beer. Brouwerij (959) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 9, 2013
On tap at Southern Sun. Pours a dark, opaque brown with a finger of quickly settling light brown head. Sheets of thin lacing. Aroma is strong roasted coffee with significant alcohol. Flavor is rich, slightly bitter, roasted coffee up front, espresso, toffee, and dark chocolate. Hints of rum and stone fruit. Roasted, coffee, and bitter finish that lingers. Incredible masking of alcohol, can hardly be tasted under all the coffee and malts. Soft carbonation, very full body, and full, thick texture. Warm finish, alcohol is more noticeable in feeling than in the taste. Super rich, strong, smooth, the ultimate coffee beer and an incredible rendition of an already amazing brew. Liked it so much I had to have a few. Alemax (16) - Louisville, Colorado, USA - FEB 9, 2013

Opaque black beer, no real head. Light palate, fairly smooth. Sweet black coffee. A little sweet lactose. Underneath are sweet red berry fruits. Nicely joined up and smooth. Hides the abv very well. Tasty treat!
