Taste is wood, slightly roasted dark malts, coffee beans, chocolate, bourbon and light touches of vanilla and dark fruits. UPDATED: OCT 1, 2016 Batch #5. Bottled Feb 19, 2016. Pours dark brown/black color with tan head. Aromas of bourbon, roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, oak. The bourbon barrel stout I judge all others by, malty, smooth and silky, vanilla, caramel, and a slight smokiness. This beer has no equal.

12oz bottle pour a thick black color with a bit of head. Batch 5, Feb 2016. Bitter chocolate, lots of good, and a little overly sweet.

Growler from Stogies íN Hops, served in a tulip glass. Pours heavily viscous, dark inky brownish black with medium dark tan head that laces heavily. Aroma is charred dark chocolate malt, bourbon, licorice, soy sauce, toasted oak. Taste is similar - incredibly thick, rich mouthfeel. Layers of amazing rich flavors - roasted oak barrels, whiskey, vanilla, toasted caramel, espresso beans, umami, molasses, dark chocolate. Boozy, though not excessively so - no way Iíd guess the actual abv here. Lingers roasty and bitter chocolate on the finish. Amazing imperial stout, though Iíd rank this just shy of the best out there like BCBS or Hunapu.

Very warming right off the bat as if it were brewed with oats, full bodied. Heavy more than warming at times. Big maple syrup stout with coffee and alcohol fire at the finish. Like taking a shot at the end. Party time! Should be shared at the end of the night, but maybe not after a ton of drinks cause itís quite fortified itself. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark tan head with incredible retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Insane appearance. Aromas of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, fudge brownie, molasses, bourbon, vanilla, coconut, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of raisin, prune, date, licorice, tobacco, soy sauce, smoke, char, and roast/oak earthiness. Incredible aromas with awesome complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, fudge brownie, molasses, bourbon, vanilla, coconut, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of raisin, prune, date, licorice, tobacco, soy sauce, smoke, char, and roast/oak earthiness. Pours a pitch black body with a 1/5th of an inch chocolate head. Head retention and lacing were average for a 15 percent beer.
Smell is big on alcohol, not so much bourbon, but slightly like rubbing alcohol. Chocolate covered brownie, charred oak, and port wine are also present. No hops, tons of sweetness dominate.
Taste is a mix of port wine, imperial stout, chocolate syrup and straight whisky. Sweet oak counteracts the maltiness of beer, alcohol is definitely there but not too bad for 15 percent.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly chewy. Highly carbonated for such a high gravity beer. Wish head stayed around but its not uncommon in this type of beer.
Overall this was a good dessert/sipping drink. Similar to dark lord in terms of sweetness, but with some whisky flavor. Aging helped mellow it some, 12oz was definitely enough, borderline too sweet.
