On tap @ Avery tasting room. It smells exactly like genoa salami, which is a little strange, but in a good way. Flavor is more of the salami, but not as strong, lots of pepper and some spicy/sour notes. Draft @ Mountain Sun. Deep brown body, almost black, some cola color @ top. Strange spiced licorice and potpourri nose, some candy sugar and black pepper. On tap at Avery Tasting Room poured a hazy dark brown with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of pepper, yeast, cocoa, burnt carmel and light fruittiness. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. On tap at Mountain Sun, $5 for an 8 oz glass. Apparently this was a collaborative brew between Avery and Mountain Sun. Dark black with a great head that lasted quite a while. Smells interesting, spicy. The taste is really good, a little sour, a peppery finish and a great mouthfeel. This was quite the surprise and I was glad I order it. Excellent saison.

dark leaning to purple body. a bit of sulphur in the nose that dominates the other smells, the spice is there too, a hint of earthiness, and a light berry. the flavor is incredibly good. dirty yeast, figs, a bit of egg dough, plum, straight yeast goodness. while the aroma may seem like i am saying it is unpleasant, it is one of those that grows on you as this is drunk. i’m not sure what spice was used, but it is strong, and it is good. like a peppermint and black pepper type thing. the fig and dried plum notes work well to accent what seems to me like a lot of hops and spice in there. a great sipper to finish a long day.
