Pours a beautiful murky-amber, like apple cider. Complex funky, tart-lactic, wine & wood aroma. Flavor is like an everlasting gobstoper in beer form...wood and red wine, acidic-tart cherry-fruit, funk...so much going on in there. One of the best beers I’ve tasted.

Really boring beer. Not funky, not sour, just kind of a bland sweetish thing. Very little to indicate that this was a wild ale, so I’m penalizing it a little bit for that. Disappointing but not actually bad...hmm.

(Draught at Avery - GABF) opaque gold-orange with a white ring of bubbles. Nose of big honey, floral, caramel, maple, sweet, waffles, and brown sugar. Taste is mildly acetic, honey, tart, light tobacco, apple, and white wine grapes. Soft carbonation, light refreshing body, tart honey linger. Liked it a lot! 2010 version (which according to Avery is wine barrel aged with house blend #2) at the 2010 Stone Sourfest. Pours with a large, fluffy, slightly off-white head over a bronze-golden body. Aroma of funk, tannins, vinous notes, dark fruit, and cherries. Flavor of cherries, oak, sour, vinous, funk, tropical fruit. Lingering tart and vinous flavors with lively carbonation.

draft at star bar. white head, lightly opaque red/pink-tinged body. nose of soft dough, mild to medium blended grapes (both white/red, but somewhat like french pinot noir), light cream/milk-like cherry skins - this is the perfumed, milky fruit character (furthered by the brett and whatever other souring agents are involved) that I find across the board in avery’s sour beers, which makes them taste so similar, like tacos, burritos and enchiladas made at a crappy mexican restaurant: same ingredients, different presentation. acid is mild to medium, body is appropriately dry, which is a marvel for a beer such as reverend, and alcohol is unnoticeable (also rare). decent stuff. potbeerjob (1343) - Denver, Colorado, USA - AUG 31, 2010
Draught at brewery. Dark brown with medium tan head. Light sweet caramel in aroma with dominating sour funk backbone, honey, hints of cinnamon, horse blanket, barnyard. A: The pour is an amber color with a slight haze and a decent sized white head.
S: Fairly sweet on the nose, a hint of apples and perhaps cherries underneath. The oak presence is mild as well. Overall, a pretty underwhelming aroma.
T: A bit more robust in terms of the flavor, but not necessarily good. Quite sweet for a sour beer (perhaps the bugs and yeast need a little more time to bring down the gravity), with some undertones of green apple, oak, and a strange metallic taste.
M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation.

Tasted on tap at the 4th Annual Stone Sour Fest on 7/18/2010. This sour ale pours a medium orange gold color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is tart, fruity and sweet. A medium bodied sour ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, tart and funky. Nice balance. Good carbonation. A nice even tartness throughout this beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly tart.
