4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sweet malty aroma and flavor. Fits style perfectly. Well balanced not too cloying. Some chocolate malt notes come through in the taste. Another good beer by Ayinger. That's why they are one of Germany's best!
Served draft at Bavaria Restaurant. Dark chestnut in color, medium head. Aroma is light: caramel, chocolate and dried fruit. Taste is plums, chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Finish is smooth and nearly indiscernible. A great smooth drinking dunkel, that goes with any meal and with another dunkel! BrewWhatIWant (293) - Ontario, CANADA - NOV 8, 2017
Pours ruby with a full long lasting white head that leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is malty. Taste is a little sweet and a little bitter. There are notes of rye bread, a hint of chocolate, plums, and some herbal hops. Light bodied with low to medium-low carbonation. Everything is fairly mild but it lets all the flavours come forward. Another really great beer from Ayinger. chadski (161) - California, USA - NOV 7, 2017
Aroma of thick dark bread. Deep brown color with nice off-white lacing. Toasted malt flavors with hints of chocolate. Full-bodied. balloonbuffoon (594) - - NOV 4, 2017
16.9floz (500ml) bottle, no date, $3, pint glass. This is a lager that is medium-brown in color with streaming bubbles, a small dingy white head, a caramel nose, medium in body with good carbonation, and is traditional in that it does not overpower my taste senses. Instead the toasted bread flavor is subtle, not to roasted or sweet to ease drinkability. john44 (3392) - SW London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 30, 2017

Poured from 500ml bottle a very dark amber with a medium sized head of foam that dissipated quickly leaving just a fine layer with some lacing.
The smell is a strong scent of roasted malt that suggests some sweetness is waiting for me in the taste.
The taste up front is also of roasted malt, lots of it and there's lots of chocolate notes there as well making for some nice, sweet, yummy goodness that lasts all the way through the finish. Man, I could easily drink a couple of these...err....I have done that before. lol
Bottom line: I've had this Dunkel many times before and I'm glad I've finally reviewed it. It's a winner that I can easily recommend cuz it's just so damn tasty! panda_brewmaster (42) - Bournemouth, Dorset, ENGLAND - OCT 16, 2017
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2017 Bottle. Pours clear dark brown. Thin white head. Subtle aroma of bread and roasted malt. Medium body and average carbonation. Malty with moderate sweetness and bitterness. Dark chockolate, caramel and subtle cofee in the aftertaste. Quite balanced beer overal. planky84 (3425) - Lee, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 9, 2017
Bottle from Oddbins Beer Shop, Blackheath. Mahogany coloured pour with a beige head. Nose of toffee, orchard fruit, caramel, black cherry, fudge, sultanas. Flavours of toffee apple, pear drops, caramel, sweet red fruit. Quite dry. Nice. Fullpintofbeer (439) - Bristol, Somerset, ENGLAND - SEP 30, 2017
Bottle from Brewers Droop, Bristol. Small, lightly off-white head, dark golden/ruby colour, clear. Aroma: malts, roasted bread, bit of berries. Lightly bitter with sort of dry/coffee aftertaste, but not too strong. Full body, average carbonation. Really nice, smooth, fantastic. martpez (327) - Norwich, Norfolk, ENGLAND - SEP 7, 2017
UPDATED: OCT 30, 2017 Wonderful amber red colour lovely texture too. Texture is a touch metallic with this bottle though. Some roasted malts coming through with very little in the way of a hoppy character except a mild dry finish at the end. Decent. Would like to try this on tap to get a better grasp of its character.
