Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

Sensual and balanced...a grand dame in a dance of flashy adolescents these days...old school. Pleasantly malty and complex lovely toasted golden color

Served draft at Bavaria Restaurant. Dark chestnut in color, medium head. Aroma is light: caramel, chocolate and dried fruit. Taste is plums, chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Finish is smooth and nearly indiscernible. A great smooth drinking dunkel, that goes with any meal and with another dunkel!

Pours ruby with a full long lasting white head that leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is malty. Taste is a little sweet and a little bitter. There are notes of rye bread, a hint of chocolate, plums, and some herbal hops. Light bodied with low to medium-low carbonation. Everything is fairly mild but it lets all the flavours come forward. Another really great beer from Ayinger.

Aroma of thick dark bread. Deep brown color with nice off-white lacing. Toasted malt flavors with hints of chocolate. Full-bodied.

16.9floz (500ml) bottle, no date, $3, pint glass. This is a lager that is medium-brown in color with streaming bubbles, a small dingy white head, a caramel nose, medium in body with good carbonation, and is traditional in that it does not overpower my taste senses. Instead the toasted bread flavor is subtle, not to roasted or sweet to ease drinkability.

Bottle. BBE Mar 2018; Drank Oct 2017 - Dark red brown in colour. Good frothy off-white head. Very malty; heavy malts, roasty, bready, rye, caramel, toffee, nutty, coffee notes. Fruity; dark fruit notes. Sweet roast malty fruity throughout. Quite dry. (2017-10)

From May 2006 Poured from 500ml bottle a very dark amber with a medium sized head of foam that dissipated quickly leaving just a fine layer with some lacing. The smell is a strong scent of roasted malt that suggests some sweetness is waiting for me in the taste. The taste up front is also of roasted malt, lots of it and there's lots of chocolate notes there as well making for some nice, sweet, yummy goodness that lasts all the way through the finish. Man, I could easily drink a couple of these...err....I have done that before. lol Bottom line: I've had this Dunkel many times before and I'm glad I've finally reviewed it. It's a winner that I can easily recommend cuz it's just so damn tasty!

Bottle from Oddbins Beer Shop, Blackheath. Mahogany coloured pour with a beige head. Nose of toffee, orchard fruit, caramel, black cherry, fudge, sultanas. Flavours of toffee apple, pear drops, caramel, sweet red fruit. Quite dry. Nice.

Bottle from Brewers Droop, Bristol. Small, lightly off-white head, dark golden/ruby colour, clear. Aroma: malts, roasted bread, bit of berries. Lightly bitter with sort of dry/coffee aftertaste, but not too strong. Full body, average carbonation. Really nice, smooth, fantastic.

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2017 Wonderful amber red colour lovely texture too. Texture is a touch metallic with this bottle though. Some roasted malts coming through with very little in the way of a hoppy character except a mild dry finish at the end. Decent. Would like to try this on tap to get a better grasp of its character.
