3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 15, 2017 It pours deep copper with a slightly off white head. It has moderately low head retention. Very good clarity. IT has aromas of bread crusts, low nuts, low chocolate, and caramel. There are rich malt flavors as the balance is towards the malts from start to finish. The flavors are dominated by the bread crusts and caramel (Maillard) with the nuts, chocolate, spicy hops, and roast in the background. It is very clean. It has a medium body with moderate carbonation that is ever so slightly creamy. Overall, this is a rich malty delightful lager with subtle hints of hops and esters throughout the taste.
Wonderful amber red colour lovely texture too. Texture is a touch metallic with this bottle though. Some roasted malts coming through with very little in the way of a hoppy character except a mild dry finish at the end. Decent. Would like to try this on tap to get a better grasp of its character. 0.5 l bottle from ’REWE Budnik & Homberg’, best before November 2017. Clear, dark reddish amber with a medium large, dense, stable, off-white head. Sweetish, malty, slightly roasty and a little grassy-spicy aroma of caramel, toasted nuts, some chocolate and hints of straw. Quite sweet, malty, slightly roasty and even a bit fruity taste of caramel, raisins, toasted nuts, some prunes and a touch of straw, followed by a short, slightly bitter, a bit roasty and a little grassy-spicy finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very nice Dunkel, really tasty, quite deep for the style as well. Nisse666 (7675) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - AUG 5, 2017

Sure, I’ll put this up near the top of the German beers I like. Many of the descriptors I read work for me: a beautiful color, aroma of roasted barley and plummy fruitiness. I like very much. JefVerstraete (3510) - Oosterzele, BELGIUM - JUL 18, 2017
