Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

Pours a dark amber brown with thick off-white head, lots of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, and raisins. Flavor matches well and makes for a pretty nice brew. Definitely a great beer and serves a great purpose.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is dark bready malt, caramel, toffee, mildly roasty with a touch of butterscotch. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. A fine example of the style.

0.5 l bottle from ’REWE Budnik & Homberg’, best before November 2017. Clear, dark reddish amber with a medium large, dense, stable, off-white head. Sweetish, malty, slightly roasty and a little grassy-spicy aroma of caramel, toasted nuts, some chocolate and hints of straw. Quite sweet, malty, slightly roasty and even a bit fruity taste of caramel, raisins, toasted nuts, some prunes and a touch of straw, followed by a short, slightly bitter, a bit roasty and a little grassy-spicy finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very nice Dunkel, really tasty, quite deep for the style as well.

Sure, I’ll put this up near the top of the German beers I like. Many of the descriptors I read work for me: a beautiful color, aroma of roasted barley and plummy fruitiness. I like very much.

Bottle @ home. Dark colour, light beige foam. Light roasty, some coffee and caramel. Not too sweet, light bitter. Easy drinkable. Nice Dunkel.

Reddish brown old copper pour with off white to tan head. Aroma is sweet malt and molasses with a hint of iron. Taste is malty caramel, sweet up front, a light fade and then the sweetmalt cones back. Very enjoyable.
