3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
2012 Colorado Mead Tasting at Armin’s house. Thanks to Stephen! Pours a clear, reddish violet appearance with no head. Smoky, peppery spicy, cherry, dark chocolate, kind of strange aroma. Very strange, rich cherry flavor that morphs into a weird pepper, veggie flavor. There’s some chocolate, cocoa, earth, and honey mixed in. Kind of an enigma and I still don’t know if I like it or not.
A dark crimson color with a few bubbles. A tart cherry skin flavor. Very dry. A backing of chocolate. Some acidity in the flavors. Balanced well between the sweet and spice. A cinnamon peppery mouth. Really good. tectactoe (3125) - Michigan, USA - MAR 28, 2015
Bottle: Thanks, Dave. Soft, dark red & ruby-indigo pour with no real carbonation showing. Aroma has a nice cherry cordial essence with tons of juicy cherries, chocolate, honey, & a very, very light peppery spice essence. Lovely tart & sweet cherry flavor up front with tons of honey underneath. Chocolate gets a milky sweetness with lightly roasty undertones. Chilies are much more prominent, giving a nice spiciness from front to back. Really good & really sweet but well balanced. Nice stuff! Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - MAR 28, 2015

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy cherry, light chipotle, and faint chocolate. It pours a dark brown with red highlights/transparency and no head and some decent legs. The flavor starts with moderate-heavy cherry and lighter heat. There is some faint chocolate in the background. The finish has very light chipotle heat. It’s medium-full bodied with minimal carbonation. Overall, this is one of the best chipotle/pepper meads I’ve had.
POurs a still, deep red., Aroma is chocolate and chilis. Taste follows straight from the producer’s description. Starts cherry; middle is hints of chocolate; finishes with the smoky chipotle Steve_0 (3818) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 17, 2012
Bottle at the Colorado Mead Tasting ’12. Pour is deep purple/crimson with no head. Really dirty/earthy aroma, roasted chilies, a hint of smoke, dark fruits, and mint. Sweet cherries upfront, with touches of oak and cocoa through the middle, with some big heat on the backend. Syrupy mouthfeel with no carbonation. Really different mead and hard to pinpoint what I like/dislike. This one is open to debate.

Colorado mead tasting 2012 - turbid purplish red - aroma of cherry, a touch of dry cocoa, a hint of smoke, light spice - some light vegetal character from the peppers, but it is easy to ignore - hard to evaluate if this is good or bad - flavor is sweet cherries up front, followed by some tartness/acidity - the chipotles come on strong through the middle and finish - smoke, moderate heat - cocoa in the finish, but the heat overpowers it - I love heat, though, so I can’t complain - I dig it, to an extent, but it is a bit messy. arminjewell (9728) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - NOV 17, 2012
Pour out of 375 mL bottle, thanks Stephen! Dark reddish purple/brown pour with no head, aroma brought notes of rotten mint, some slight cherry, chili notes, some vegetal as well, hints of earth, slight chocolate but restrained, but the rotten basil/herbal note is tough to get past. Taste is a mix of cherry, chocolate, some cherry, hints of rotten mint, hints of earth, finishing very spicy. This is very weird. pantanap (3367) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 2, 2012
375ml bottle. Thanks to Andrew for sharing... Pours a deeper cherry red, mostly transparent yet still pretty dark yet somewhat transparent, beet juice and leggy..., aroma of cocoa in and smoked chile pepper and cherry juice. Honey on the backend but pretty smooth throughout... Flavors are more of the same with an drewbeerme (3921) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 2, 2012
Bottle. Pours blood red no head. Aroma is earthy pepper, figs, cherry pits. Cinnamon. Flavors are strong chipotle, cherry pits and juice, muddy chocolate, tart finish. I enjoy the chipotle and cherry but the chocolate doesn’t add much.
