Cask at the Crosse Keys. Dark, dark brown pour with a tight, foamy beige head. Roasted cocoa and malts in the nose. Oh yes, this tastes damn good. Has just the right sweetness, lots of mocha, restrained roastiness, a little milk chocolate and just a faint bitterness. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Great condition. Sweet chocolate finish, mild roast and leaves. Very well done.

Near black colored with red hints, medium sized beige head. Rich coffee roasted aroma with sweet caramel. Thin to medium bodied. Flavor is also strongly roasted with same coffee dominating, sweet flavor with some dryness in aftertaste. Good mild ale with stoutish notes.

Gravity at Cambridge Beer Festival 2009. Almost black with a slight scum on the top. Hint of smoke in the nose. Quite thin. Rather sweet and watery. Lots of straw in the mouth, a hint of berries and a nasty metallic-sulphuric end, which spoilt it.

Cask-conditioned at the Knights Templar (JDW), Bristol 16/05/09. Near black in colour with a decent, off-white head. Slightly sweet aroma with some roastiness. Flavour began with some caramel, before some chocolate, more roastiness and a slightly smoky finish. Good stuff.
