3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in October 2012. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with a thick creamy off white head. Strong roast malt and burnt toast present in the short aroma. Creamy mouthfeel and good lacing throughout. Dark malts give a rich base of black treacle sponge, black coffee, bitter plain chocolate and a hint of root liquorice. Dusty hop resins present in the short bitter aftertaste with barley grain present. Long malty finish with dry almond notes evident in the mouth. This is a superb session stout and reminded me of Broughtonís Oatmeal Stout from long ago. Highly recommended.
