One of the best that Backroads has to offer.....A bit flatter than Guinness...One of the top sellers at our local taverns in NW Indiana......Recommended if you like dark beers.......
Bottle. Something off about the nose but good taste. Weird. Dark black with no head. A decent rich flavor of chocolate and roasted barley. I don’t find it too thin at all. OK. kmbrewmaster (6) - - MAY 17, 2013 does not count
Poored from a a bottel. Good taste but disappointed as it was a bit watery for a stout. Was expecting a bit more of a mouthful. Onslow (1532) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - OCT 19, 2012
Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Inky dark brew with quickly passing tan head. Aroma of toasted grains, coffee, chocolate. Taste is sweet malts, burnt grain, toasted grains and lightly bitter, dry finish - very appropriate for a dry stout. Very good. queenholly (3623) - South Whitley, Indiana, USA - SEP 23, 2012
Tap at Back Road Fall Fest. Faint caramel and chocolate malt aroma. Black brown with a small tan head. Light roasty coffee flavor. Thin, light body, dry finish. Overall, this beer was light and thin for the style. rondphoto (4494) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - MAY 1, 2011
Very dark amber, good head medium lacing. Nice balance of burnt malt/caramel and smooth bitterness moving through the finish. Clean water finish similar to Murphy’s Stout. Big brew, especially for 5%.

12 oz. bottle that shawnm213 picked up for me at City-Wide in South Bend. Why the hell is this rated so low? It’s nice! Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, smoked hickory, smoked meat, and earthy hops. The flavor is also smoky and meaty, with notes of hops, chocolate, dried dark fruits, metallic notes, and a metallic sharpness. Medium bodied, with low carbonation and a smoky, metallic mouthfeel. I like this one- a weird combination of smoky, fruity, roasty, and earthy. Cool beer- get your hands on one. TomDecapolis (4636) - Milton, Delaware, USA - JAN 9, 2010
Thanks to hopdiggitydog for this one. Pours a deeper brown with little to no head. Aroma of oats, chocolate, tobacco and nuts. Flavor of toasted and light roasted malt, chocolate, tobacco. hopdog (13102) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 9, 2010
12oz bottle acquired in trade with dmschefke (thanks!). Poured a dark brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, some roastiness, and a little earthy. Tastes of chocolate, roast, and lighter coffee. Cletus (6368) - Connecticut, USA - SEP 26, 2009
Bottle courtesy of shawnm213. Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Smells of chocolate, soy sauce, egg dye, vinegar. Tastes of chocolate, peppery, some coffee, watery. SrSilliGose (3332) - pouring bus, New Brunswick, CANADA - AUG 9, 2009
Notes of roasted malts, bitter chocolate. A lot of flavor for a relatively low alcohol beer. A nice session stout!
