Mild haze on a golden yellow beer. Looks the part although clarity is a small issue; Great retention and surprisingly strong lace Very German; couldn’t possibly be the smoky scent emanating from the surface, could it? Flowery, deeply malty with some mineral-rich earthy scents and light spicy hops/rye Deep malt foreground fights with and subsumes whatever bitter hoppiness was supposed to be in the finish. Black pepper, floral hops, spicy rye, caramel A bit on the prickly side with some sharp touches of carbon dioxide. Feels under-attenuated given the weird slickness/sweetness of the malt This beer tends to shine here as it drinks easy and is fairly complex despite its flaws. Not bad at all, but kind of off and seems like it could be pushed further Not sure this is exactly what they were going for but it’s drinkable and enjoyable. In terms of art direction and label quality, it’s fantastic and unique. I think the recipe might be in need of tweaking. TheGent (656) - , Massachusetts, USA - APR 26, 2013

22 oz. bottle today as well as on draft a few months back. Color is hazy amber with light head with spotty lace down the glass. Aroma is fruity yeast with light caramel malt. Flavor is spicy rye upfront follow by malt with the mild fruity yeast rounding out the flavors. Sweetness in the finish over powers the rye and helps balance the beer. Decent brew overall. thornecb (6021) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Pours blood orange into a snifter. Pinkish head with medium retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Dusty tropical fruit and yeast aromas. Thin and sharp with sweet papaya and passionfruit upfront turning to bitter pith in the lasting finish.
