commonmac (1381) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 14, 2017
Tap from the source in Coralville, IA. 10oz snifter glass. Slightly cloudy deep golden. Minimal head but lacing is strong. Aroma has citrus with a sort of grassy quality. Taste takes on predominantly bitter traits choosing to emphasize hops and push any balanced malt characteristics to the background. Citrus rind prevails especially in the aftertaste. More balance would be appreciated. Decent, one note rendition of the style.

4 oz. draft at Iowa TapRoom, Des Moines, IA. Very fruity aroma of grapefruit, mango, mixed citrus. Flavor is comparable to the nose, with grapefruit, light tropical fruits, and a mild biscuit backbone. Bitterness and body is medium. Overall, right as it should be.

Sampler at el bait shop. Pours golden with a white head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Nice pine and grass notes on the nose and tongue along with some malt notes for balance. Finished clean. Solidly nice!

tlensch (9) - Iowa, USA - JUL 27, 2017 does not count
12oz bottle. Hazy tan body, foamy white head. Pretty darn weak for a beer showcasing Galaxy, way too bitter, not enough tropical mellow fruity tones. Well, I guess there are some juicy tones. Faint apricot, peach, but the dank green onion/garlic tone dominates, maybe it’s age. I guess I should have remember this brewery is shabby before I picked up a four back. Mediocre at best. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the brewery. Clear golden to yellow in appearance with a lacy white head. Mild aroma of toasted grains, fruity hops, citrus zest, pine and light resin. Similar flavor, adding moderate hop bitterness and a light malt sweetness. Medium body with a dry feel a light juicy hop finish. Solid.

TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JAN 31, 2017
Draft pour on tap at the brewery (Coralville, IA). POURS a hazy amber orange hue, a bit darker through the body with some honeynut glow, frothy whitish head atop is firm, sticks around as a decent film and laces ok. Nose is fruity, melon and subtle tropical wafts meet butter florals, telltale Galaxy hop bitter, soapy, green fruity appeal. Initial is medium bodied, firmly bitter with lots of melon leading the charge. Honeydew, some subtle tropical wafts behind lead into a firmer soapy and floral bitterness. Citrus rind, more florals bitterness and fresh enough hops. Almost a subtle spiciness, a bit of sweeter Biscuit and caramel malt still pop up in jabs through the more potent bitter hop appeal. Bitter florals, a bit of soap, fleeting fruit as we finish up. Sufficient hop bitter appeal, nice enough flavors and flow with the display of the Galaxy. A firmer malt base beneath is more than I’d like but doesn’t interfere. Nice nose, solid pour, good flavors and nice flow with a pretty firm supporting bitterness. Nice.

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has a nice grassy citrus note with straw and grains underlying. Flavor has a nice citrus note with grass and a light grain backbone.

One of my favorites. This years batch is best so far both in a bottle and on tap.

A very powerful IPA. Potent hops especially at the end. A lot of bitterness and some no citrus throughout.
