on tap @ Backpocket Brewing / Coralville IA --- Clear amber brown, heavy rim head, blobs of lace. Toasted malt opens things, adding clay and carbonation, effectively coating the roof of the mouth for a finish that feels like something was left out. Not satisfying, and not recommended. Big frozen mug serving at some chop house in Muscatine. Brown and clear with an off-white head. Aroma of dark malts, bread, caramel, toffee and chocolate. Similar flavor, nutty malts and light bitter hops. Average body, a little thin. OK. alecanaya (53) - Iowa, USA - FEB 4, 2014
Not so dark. Lots of carbonation, but overall a better lager than the other mediocre popular ones (ahem: Bud, Miller and so) guzzler67 (1696) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - JAN 27, 2014
Clear copper appearance with a large tan head and nice lacing. Subtle aroma of caramel malts set in a briar patch. Smooth, earthy, moderately sweet taste. Medium bodied mouthfeel with average carbonation that leads to a short lived finish.

Bottle at home. Pours cloudy/hazy brown with a medium, frothy light beige head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is plastic, green apple (acetaldehyde), lightly toasted malt, nutty malt, and dates. Flavor is lightly tart dark fruits, light roasted malt notes with some diacetyl, light hops and bitterness with a sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation. Crispy34 (496) - Texas, USA - DEC 28, 2013
12oz bottle. Aroma is a dark, sour malt. Appearance is a medium bronze with a little head. Taste is a brown. That's about it. Palate is even. Overall, a lacking beer. Expected more.

The smell on this is a bit off, but I like this more than most lagers. I'm scared that they call this their "darkest beer." Color wise it is dark, but taste wise it is nothing. Invest in a stout, Backpocket.
