Seeking out the treasures of the countryside and making the most of local ingredients is an art shared by Badger and the wily poacher. Badger's Poacher's Choice captures unique rural flavours in a smooth, dark ale enhanced by a touch of liquorice for spicy sweetness and damson for a soft, subtly fruity taste. A gutsy ale that's worth tracking down.

Bottle from Tesco. Mahogany colour with lasting beige head. Malty dusty slight Badger yeast and pepper hop on the aroma. Malty in mouth. Horrible pasteurised empty candy sugar towards end of palate. Sweetish ESB style finish. Yeasty ESB. It’s fine.

hohops (998) - Kent, ENGLAND - JUN 10, 2017
Appearance- dark amber, clear, a thick fizzy beige head of one finger. Aroma- lots of plum, blackcurrant, liquorice, brambly fruit. Taste- rich and malty, lots of dark fruit, blackcurrant, raisin, tangy fruit, nutty malt hints, quite sweet. Fluffy mouthfeel.

Pack Badger @Lidl. La fruitée du pack, l’étiquette ne spécifie pas le(s) fruit(s). Surprenante, pas désagréable mais pas exceptionnelle

In bottle. rich ruby damson like fruit flavour . Easy drinking would never think it’s 5.7%.

Bottle. Dark Ruby in colour. Very fruity; berries, apple, dark fruits. Malty; roasty malts; caramel, hint of liquorice. Some slight hop bitterness; slightly earthy. Sweet malty fruity, but has a rather odd boiled sweets flavour. Didn’t like it. (2008)

rauchbier (3890) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - FEB 23, 2017
Bottle, from Tesco. Red brown, thin but lasting white head and good condition. Big sweet plummy nose with a slightly spicy edge and a hint of roasted barley. Full bodied in the mouth with a dominant sweet fruitiness from the damsons and a building bitterness that becomes quite dry with time. Finish is sweet and fruity with a lingering spicy bitterness.

Fľaša v Saltney. Jantárová farba, slabá biela pena. Vôňa sladová, sladká, karamel, bobulové ovocie. Chuť sladká, ako cukríky, karamel, jemná trpkosť. Dosť umelá dochuť.

Swaroga (2217) - Warszawa, POLAND - JAN 31, 2017
Brown, can-see-through with small to medium head. The first striking aroma is an off-flavour of cat piss and wet dog. Seams that not only they used old hops but managed to oxidise it as well. There are also some vomit like odours…. What the hell ! Despite all that, roasted bread, caramel, orange zest, flowers. Soft carbonation and mouth feel. I only took 2 sips, the rest goes to the sink.

Great fruity taste with a punch. Lovely for a summers night after a hard days work.

The wrong sweetness for me. Also, i am allergic to liqourice root, not 100% sure if it has it but I am reacting.

Graham77 (514) - SCOTLAND - OCT 27, 2016
500ml bottle. Aroma of caramel, berries and hay. The flavour is similar with sweet fruit and caramel. Full flavoured but too sweet and fruity for my tastes. Although fruit is not listed as an ingredient I would think this should be listed as a Fruit Beer rather than English Strong Ale.
