Seeking out the treasures of the countryside and making the most of local ingredients is an art shared by Badger and the wily poacher. Badger's Poacher's Choice captures unique rural flavours in a smooth, dark ale enhanced by a touch of liquorice for spicy sweetness and damson for a soft, subtly fruity taste. A gutsy ale that's worth tracking down.

Bottle from Tesco. Mahogany colour with lasting beige head. Malty dusty slight Badger yeast and pepper hop on the aroma. Malty in mouth. Horrible pasteurised empty candy sugar towards end of palate. Sweetish ESB style finish. Yeasty ESB. Its fine.

Great fruity taste with a punch. Lovely for a summers night after a hard days work.

The wrong sweetness for me. Also, i am allergic to liqourice root, not 100% sure if it has it but I am reacting.

500ml bottle. Aroma of caramel, berries and hay. The flavour is similar with sweet fruit and caramel. Full flavoured but too sweet and fruity for my tastes. Although fruit is not listed as an ingredient I would think this should be listed as a Fruit Beer rather than English Strong Ale.

1/10/16. Bottle at home. Is this a fruit juice or a beer? There's some good strong ale flavours in there somewhere but they've all been pushed into the corner by the forest fruit thing ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours clear amber, with a moderately sized, lasting white head. Aroma is sweet berries, to an extent that Im worried this is going to be a Jolly Ranchers flavored beer. But it isnt quite. Flavor is surprisingly balanced after that initial whiff, a nice mixture of malt, spice, berries, hops, and undertone of darker fruits. The flavor is very nice. The aroma doesnt come off as sickly-sweet after trying a sip either, although its definitely more in that direction than the taste is. Overall, this is a good beer, something refreshingly distinct.

Clear amber body with a medium beige head. Aroma is malty, fruity berries, a bit bubblegum. Taste is heavy sweet and low bitter. Medium body, oily texture and soft carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber colour with a foamy off white head. Aroma of dark fruits, cola, damsun, some strawberry jam, slight liquorice and spicy hops. Taste of dark fruits, damsun, raisin, liquorice, some strawberry jam, subtle biscuity malts and spicy hops. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A bittersweet, fruity, spicy hop bitterness in the finish. A very fruity ale, strongly of damsun and spicy hops. Quite rich and sweet but pleasant overall.

500ml bottle. Dark brown with a thick head. Strong spicey aroma with tons of damsons and plums. Taste is bitter and more spiced plums. One of my favourite bottled ales.

Bottle at home. Pours clear amber with a thin white head. Aromas of raspberry jam, toffee, light spice, sweet cordial. Taste is sweet too, lots more red fruit. Too sweet for me.
