COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First came Kjetil Jikiun. Then there was light. As every Norwegian craft brewery we are indebted to and probably existing because of the tall pilot who founded Nøgne Ø in 2003. After pioneering Norwegian craft beer for more than a decade, he is flying off towards Cretan adventures. Luckily he gave us a visit on his way. Kjetil is (among many things) the master of Imperial Stout. And free as a bird he put together a recipe with us. An Independent Stout - to honor and remind us why we set out to brew better beer.

Bottle enjoyed at home
Pours dark, black in glass, thick tanned head. Smell of dark malts, chocolate, roast, coffee, toast. Medium sweet, fruity dark malts, chocolate, toast, not so much roast as aroma. Quite tasty stuff, not revolutionary but a good IS

Black with a brown head - Roasted malt aroma - Roasted malt body with some dark fruity flavours with hints of alcohol heat in the back - The dark malt goes into the finish with some notes of alcohol heat - This was good

tfredvik (2027) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 29, 2016
Black-bodied with a small, light-brown head that leaves some lacings. Malty and quite strong aroma of dark roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some generic fruity notes in the back that feels rather rotten. Fortunately the fruits are more overripe than rotten in the strong aroma. Also lots of dark roasted malty notes, and in the back I find ash, salty liquorice and alcohol. Moderate to light sweet and moderate bitter taste. Close to full body, creamy and smooth texture, soft carbonation. A very nice one, but for an imperial stout made by Kjetil Jikiun it’s slightly disappointing.

Tap (SOPP2016, Helsinki) (7:4:7+:4-:14+=3.6+)
Lovely rich coffee cake roasty aroma. Palate a bit fizzy and sharpish. Beautiful roasty raste. Finish bitter and burnt coffee. Definitely has that norwegian fingerprint with the bite it has. Yeah, I’ve had this before, but I liked it then and I like it now.
