Indian Pale Ale / This beer is for the hoplovers. Cascade and Sauvin hops give a powerful spicy, citrus hit. The solid malt backbone and assertive bitterness bring the beer into balance. Be careful... dangerously drinkable. from the label

Bottle from Plonk. Clear golden-amber, grassy, citrusy, passionfruit hops, solid caramel from the malt but not too sweet as some IPAs can be. Really well balanced, very drinkable, definitely sessionable. Very nice.

330ml bottle. Pours a clear orange amber colour, large frothy off-white head and nice aroma of passionfruit & floral citrus hop. Taste is malt caramel with tropical fruits, tangy grapefruit and resiny pine bitterness. Foamy mouth feel, medium bodied, high carbonation, dry bitter finish. Quite drinkable IPA.

330ml bottle from Warners at the Bay Bottleshop. Looks good, smells good, is good. Strong honey colour with floral aromas and a loose head. Resinous aftertaste and sits in the mouth well.

Tap @ union hotel. Pours cloudy orange gold with decent off white head and big lace. Aromas of passionfruit, goose berry and citrus. A touch grassy and a light caramel over a bit of graininess. Med light body. Bitterness moderate, a touch sharp and mineral but light flavors from malt and hops linger. Fruity, a touch grainy and subtly toasty on finish. Refreshing beer.

An interesting miss in my opinion. Sauvin seems to work better with lighter, less malt-heavy styles. The relationship here between malt and hop is uneasy, like a couple of strangers stuck in a lift. They have to muddle through together but theyre not very comfortable with it. Hazy bronze with a thin head. Fruity aroma of green apples, passionfruit, tinned pears and some Sauvin gooseberry notes. Faint cat pee from the Sauvin. The first taste impression is a big mouth-filling slug of malt and then the hops clamour for attention. I like Sauvin but its used to better effect in lagers. Reasonable bitterness here, quite sour in the swallow. (330ml bottle from Carrington Cellars.)
