Botella, 2017 Vintage. Black colour, brown creamy head. Aroma is sweet with chocolate and well roasted malt, dark fruits. Good mouthfeel. Sweet flavour with lots of roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruits, bit licorice, more sweetness, bit alcohol. willisread (3293) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 18, 2016
2016 bottle from Tanakaya. Dark cacao nose with some dark fruit. More dark chocolate and cacao nibs on the palate with some raisin and prune. The cacao really stands out. Fairly dry with some sweetness and a touch of berry-like tartness. Easy to drink and hides the abv very well. A bit one-dimensional but still a decent Japanese impy. Kind of impressed really. jinroh (1524) - ESTONIA - MAR 14, 2015
2015 vintage, from Hasegawa Liquors. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head. Aroma has some lactose, cocoa, chocolate. Maybe a bit too cold for the nuances, will have another sniff later. Second sniff later reveals more leather and peat than I could get before. Taste is chocolaty, strong cocoa, milk chocolate. Has some smoked sensation to it as well, peaty. Aftertaste has some bitter chocolate, bit of cocoa and long-lingering hop tingle. Nice and robust, very chocolaty stout, drinks lighter than I expected but still great. jbeatty (1247) - New York, USA - OCT 10, 2013
2013 Bottle, 10/10/2013 thanks to timE and jonno. Pours deep mocha brown, nearly black, creamy light tan head rests a silky haze on the surface. Aroma is Hershey chocolate and marshmallow, medium smooth roasted malts, subtle coffee and licorice notes. Taste is sweet milk chocolate, touch of dark fruit mixed with roasted malts, hops lending a bit of bitterness to balance. Thick, round body, bit like drinking a Yoo-hoo. Nice. Bottle at RBJG#2 - Grand Tasting Ueno Park. Black - brown head. Chocolate, nice malty, light oxidation, sweetness, white sugar, light bitterness, licorice, coffee notes. KansaiBeerLvrs (5090) - Kyoto, JAPAN - APR 16, 2013
Both poured with a thick tan/brown head, the 2012 head is a bit darker. The 2012 aroma is port or wine like with plum notes & the 2013 is more slightly more of a chocolate aroma-much milder smell. The taste of the 2012 is very smooth with sweet syrup & chocolate at the front of the mouth followed by some alcohol warming and a burnt coffee aftertaste. The 2013 is less boozy, more like cocoa powder with a bit of a rough finish. I think the 2013 is a simpler beer, that one year of aging really pushes the beer to new heights of complexity! shoulderbroken (4255) - Tokyo, JAPAN - APR 3, 2013
