GoufCustom (2083) - HONG KONG - SEP 11, 2016

330ml bottle bought at LY Drinks & Bites’s booth at HKCEC in Wan Chai during HKTDC Food Expo 2016.

Looks: Clear deep blackish brown with a layer of yeast sediments; Half finger head with soapy beige foam which fades in 30 seconds; Very good sticky lacing with zero carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant dark malt, with strong roastyness, roasted coffee, rich chocolate, caramel, strong sticky toffee, cream, light sugar, bread, strong yeast and light grass.

Taste: Mid to light sweet strong dark malt, with strong roastyness, fair black coffee, chocolates, strong toffee, caramel, cream, light floral, strong molasses, biscuits, strong yeast, light lemon, fair bitter hops and strong strawy grass.

Body: Light body. Thin palate.

Mouth Feel: Very good dark roasted maltyness in a watery background. Richness is manifested in sticky toffee, caramel, touches of black coffee and chocolates for a rich and fulfilling sensation. Notable toffee sweetness. Light lemon to round. Very good!

Hoppiness: Grass in nose. Light lemon and strawy grass in taste; Bitterness is light for a lasting, low astringent sticky dark malty finish.

After Taste: Slightly dry. Smooth and fairly bitter to mouth.

Comments: This is a well-made Schwarz with very solid nice roasted maltyness, plus moderate sweet sticky toffee and black coffee / chocolate tastes. Much more colorful and tastier than most lean and basic German Schwarz, will buy again!

Bottle from Shijonawate AEON Mall liquor shop. Nose of roast malt, chocolate, dark fruit, a bit of yeast, and a small phenolic note (which is unexpected in a schwarz). Dark reddish brown color, tan head, thick lace. Mild chocolate, a hint of coffee, tangy berries, burnt weeds, cocoa notes in mid palate, light bitterness. Thin-medium body. Very smooth flavors, Maybe just a little too thin. Good mix of chocolate and dark fruitiness.

Bottle. Pours very dark brown with red highlights, creamy low beige head, solid lacing. Roasted malt and cacao aroma, matching flavour with a lovely yeast note, more complex as it warms, light licorice and smoke, almost porter like. Drinks like a lager though, medium-bodied, dry and very smooth. Very impressed by this.

Bottle from Tanakaya in 2014. Dark chocolate and roasted malt nose with some light prune notes as it warms. Cola-like mouthfeel with average carbonation and a touch dry. More cacao nibs as it warms with some hot cocoa. Finishes clean, dry and chocolately with just a hint of sweetness. Very well-done.

Tap. At the Baeren pub. Really luxurious so close to the source. Big rich dark chocolate, mixed with some milk chocolate and mocha. Well balanced body. Smooth and decadent.

Dark body, small tan head. Faint malty aroma. Taste is pretty good, mostly malts. Soft mouthfeel, light carbonation. Mediocre all over.

5.5% from Rakuten direct from the brewery, served in a glass mug. A coca-cola pour with a beige/brown head. Chocolate, cocoa, & sweet malt aroma. The flavor is coffee beans, cocoa & a bit of chocolate in the finish though the body is a touch thin. Overall, quite good.

faroeviking (11026) - Chupando chellas es como ellas, FAROE ISLANDS - MAY 13, 2013
Botela. Black colour, beige medium head. Well roasted maltiness with dark fruits, bit smoke and bit chocolate too. Good mouthfeel. Pleasant flavour of roasted malt along with dark fruits and some chocolate and smoke. Medium pleasant bitterness. Nice Schwarz!

Keg at Goodbeer faucets. Dark chocolate brown colour with beige head that soon fades. Aroma is slightly chocoatey and a bit of savoury (soy sauce). Roasty malt. Taste is very smooth, touch of vanilla creaminess (chocolate milk maybe) but not that sweet. Savoury tang to it. Initial bitterness but then very creamy finish. Think I am a sucker for Schwarzbier.

Draught at Bulldog World Beer & Food. Black - offwhite head. Burned. Dryness. Light body. Freshness. Light metallic. Light light smokey. Thin finish.
