2008 version, on draught at Nakameguro a year later. Aroma of fruit, something funky, honey. Sweet, fruity, vinous flavor with honey and hops. Good bitter hop finish. Nicely done. Has aged very well. DuffMan (10610) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 29, 2015
Bottle. Reddish amber, hazy, with a very low beige head that retains poorly. Sweet sticky malts, floral notes, Swedish Berry Candy notes, low bitterness. A bit simple, but ok. MartinT (10037) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 25, 2013
My Bottom Line:douglas88 (9572) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUL 25, 2010
Mildly caramelized cereals (for the style) are topped with citrusy hops and their wooden depths as resinous bitterness seals this competent Barley Wine.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the cloudy amber.
-The flavor profile is harmonious throughout.
-This is not a heavy example ; it’s quite approachable and engaging.
-This sample was quite young (2013 vintage) and I imagine the aroma will especially come together with a little more time.
On tap at Goodbeer Faucets.
Bomber thanks to Mari and Stephen for bringing this over from Japan. Pours a dark brown/red color with a large beige head. The aroma is very sweet caramel candy. A super smooth flavor if rich grains and massive caramel and candy sweetness. Earthy hops. Very tea-like. In between a hopppy American BW and a sweet English version. Quite likable. Very easy to drink. Nice. BuckeyeBoy (8301) - Boise, Idaho, USA - JUN 6, 2015
On tap pours out a hazy golden topped with a sand head. Nose is sweet toffee caramel pit fruit and some rich malts. Taste is more of the sweetness caramel toffee spice and some of the fruit.

Tap. Cloudy dark amber color. Small size, white head, stays. Diacetyl, sharp sourness (both disappear later), prunes, raisins, sweet notes in aroma. Plums, raisins, sweet, bready, caramel in taste. Caramel and raisins in aftertaste. Very soft carbonation. No alcohol detected, but feel of it is there. Nice balanced bitterness. World class brew! after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - MAR 21, 2008
12-oz. ’06. Thanks, Hogfodder! Slightly hazy burnished copper medium amber with tons of white suds. Big peach and apricot nose. Medium, slightly carbed and creamy body. Sweet, pithy fruit on the mid-palate. Long orange pith finish. AndySnow (8013) - Huddinge, SWEDEN - APR 1, 2013
Draught at Craft Beer Market Toranomon, Tokyo. Deep amber colour with a minimal white head. Sweet honey aroma. Sweet caramel, alcohol flavour. A bit too light bodied for a barley wine. Sledutah (7792) - Utah, USA - JUL 26, 2010
Bottle shared by Doug, thanks! reebtogi (6350) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 11, 2015
Appearance: Poured hazy amber with a nice off-white head and some lacing left in the glass
Aroma: Caramel, candy, sweet malts
Taste: Smooth mouthfeel. Candy, brown sugar
Very nice barley wine, the alcohols are hidden
330ml bottle pours a pale amber color with a finger of off-white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is raisin and cereal grains and citrus notes. Taste is a dark fruity and malty sweetness with a citrus hop bitterness and a dry toasted finish. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, a nice barley wine style ale that must be sampled.
