COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a hazy golden hue reminiscent of the morning sun rising up above Mount Fuji, Japan Tale Ale presents itself immediately as a Japanese story. The pure white head of billowy foam hints at the fabled origins of this great island country -- the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu. The sophisticatedly understated aroma of tart Japanese plums speaks of the history of the Imperial Court as it might have existed in the ancient city of Kyoto during the Heian era. The light, almost ephemeral delicacy of flavor tips its hat to the storied history of the Japanese artisan (the potters and the swordmakers, the flower arrangers and the Geisha performers). Beneath this delicacy, though, there exists a flavor character of strength and steely determination that tells of the history of the great Japanese warriors -- the Samurai. An overriding sense of balance and unselfish purpose serves to tie the tale together as if somehow echoing the essence of an informally yet unmistakably united national polity.

Biggish offwhite head. Muddy yellow body. Medicinal strawberry and herbs aroma. Dry herbal mealy medicinal taste with fruity notes. Mild mouthfeel. Mid-bodied. Dry mealy fruity aftertaste with herbal aroma. There is a very characteristic herbal taste in this, but I can’t identify it. Buttery feel lingers. Nice, but unremarkable. (0.63l bottle, Olympen, Oslo.)

Bottle. Hazy orange body with a fine off-white head. Aroma is light fruity like citric and fresh red berries with caramel. Flavor is sweet malty with fruit from both citric and red berries and a mild bitterness. The hop flavor is quite mild, but distinct and gets more present in the aftertaste. Quite pleasant, for me this is like a session beer with a gentle complexity that become more difficult to find after a few stronger beers.

TimE (6272) - Tokyo, JAPAN - SEP 19, 2007
Hazy golden color. Light fragerant nose. Peaches and a touch of ume tartness. Very idosynchractic. Very carbonated. Light plum finish. My friend said it got lost on him the complexity. I would have to agree. If you aren’t hard core about beer it would be hard to get.

A fruit beer made with plum. 5.5% a super cloudy straw gold with a fluffy white head & a fresh plum aroma. The flavor is a mild zesty plum but the mouthfeel is thin & a bit watery with low carbonation. Zesty citrus that mellows into plum. Decent but it needs a bit more body & carbonation. Near the end of my glass the sweetness was getting slightly cloying but overall very nice.

BückDich (5477) - McCall, Idaho, USA - SEP 29, 2007
Draft @ Popeye’s: Hazy orange, light head and lacing. Nose of light floral notes and fruit, grassy, light wheat, subtle ume is hidden below lots of funky wheat and slight hop notes. Not very clean tasting, but the ume is there if you look for it. I don’t know if I’m hardcore into beer as Tim says it, but I dove into this one and I just wasn’t getting the balance here.

thebeertourist (5188) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAR 3, 2010
Bottle at Olympen. Cloudy, glowing orange with a good off-white head. Hoppy and berryish aroma. Some sourness, sweet malts, semi-dry. Body could be fuller. A Belgian-style blond ale that, sadly, has lost its personality.

CapFlu (5132) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 29, 2015
Laying a white and thin head atop a clouded yellow body. Nose of strong perfume. Flavour is tart and slightly tonic, green banana and berry seed. Okay. Purchased at Metro Liquor University Heights for around $4.

Can from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Fruity nose, with sugared pears, dried peaches, and some yeast. Thin cloudy yellowish color. Light tangy fruit flavors, pears again primarily, some apricot, and gentle citrus notes. Thin body, and quite watery. Love the nose; the flavors have minimal character. If only it lived up to the overwrought deScription above (but, then, maybe no beer could).

Enjoyit (3809) - Vadum, DENMARK - OCT 19, 2011
Hazy yellow of color with an off white head. An aroma of malt, bread and citrus. A flavor of appels, malt and bread.
