COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There is a tradition in the world of ale brewing to craft celebratory holiday ales that incorporate festive spices and perhaps other special ingredients. Baird Jubilation Ale is brewed within the context of this tradition and in the spirit of joyful celebration. A hearty ale with a rich malty base and soothing alcoholic warmth (ABV 6.5%), Jubilation Ale is made luxuriant by deft additions of two wonderful ingredients: (1) fully ripened figs candied in the country kitchen of our friend, Shoko-chan, and (2) cinnamon twigs culled from a Japanese Nikki tree. A sublimely balanced interplay between sweet and spice reminiscent of the yin-yang duality of life results. The ruby-red hue and the wafting aroma of cinnamon warm the heart and furbish the soul.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2009 Bottled; 2007 version. Caramel orange in color with a firm, off-white head. Aroma is sweet and spicy. Caramel apples, fruits, chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, and milky. The body on this one is near perfect for the flavor. Sweet malts, caramel, cinnamon, and some milk chocolate. Finish is a little salty, with nutmeg and light citrus tones. Excellent. (The 2008 version loses some points. Much less exciting with less pronounced spicing. Still good, but in the 3.6 range. Rating is still for the 2007 version)

Ive never had figgy pudding but if it tastes anything like this I want some. Figgy and malty mildly spicy.

Bottle at Pilsner Petes RBSG 2010. The aroma is fruity, bready. The appearance is a brown/red, white head. The flavor is malty, fruity, figs, plums, bread. The finish is a light noble hop bittering. Medium in body. Pretty good.

My first from this brewer and a nice surprise. It pours almost a ruby red with a slight haze. The head is off white, creamy and lacing. The aroma has fruit, caramel, candy, fig( I didnt know it had any fig until I read the label). The flavor had the above along with a hint of spice, cinnamon like it says on the label. A very nice after taste as well. Nicely balanced, lively mouth feel, nice beer.

Pours copper with a fading head. Nose shows sweet rich malt, with dried fruit and golden syrup showing through. Flavours are equally sweet but quite complex. Hints of eucalyptus, dried fruits and some spices. Pretty interesting (in a good way). Body feels too syrupy.

Caramel colored brew with a tight eggshell head that left a small amount of lacing after every sip. Aroma is subtle candied sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and molasses. Flavor is extremely balanced between hops and malt. Honey, cinnamon, caramel, brown sugar and citrus. Nothing mind-blowing but I thought this was a well put together beer.

633 ml bottle from Plaza Liquors - Pours a hazy amber color with a one finger thick light tan head. Very light lacing. Aroma is light esters (fig) and caramel malt with a hint of spice (very light cinnamon). Im not quite sure what to make of the flavor. I mainly detect some esters and caramel malt. Im not quite sure what to make of this beer. All I know is that its not worth the $12 I paid for it.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of cookie and roasted, light orange for the hops and dough for the yeast, with hints of brown sugar, cinnamon and fig. Head is average size, frothy/creamy, off-white with some slippery lacing and good legs and is mostly diminishing. Color ismedium red with a thick amount of large particles. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly to moderately bittersweet and lightly acidic. Palate is medium, oily with a lively carbonation. Pretty nice aromas and flavors in this Spiced Beer.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2017 Quite little for the alcohol here. As my drinking buddy mentioned this is a beer that is looking for an identity. Still quite nice and sweet and I am partial to cinammon so I enjoyed it. Could have a bit more body to it to compliment the festive ingredients RERATE, This year is drinking good.

Draught at Naka-Meguro taproom. Rich fig with a honey edge, allspice, oily mouthfeel, sweet finish with light boozy notes. Interesting idea but a bit too heavy and sweet in the end.
