COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kurofune (means "Black Ships") was the word the Japanese used to describe the American gunboats that came to open Japan to western trade. Kurofone Porter is sleek and forceful, but leaves a winning bittersweet taste of chocolate and coffee on the tongue. "Do not resist the superior might; cunningly acquiesce, and embrace." Kampai!

manuchampions (1244) - Vancouver, British Columbia, - AUG 22, 2010
360ml bottle from 16th St.Liquor in West Vancouver. Pours a very dark brown with thin tan head. Good lacing on this one. Aroma is both smoky and bitter with hints of coffee and a thin whisp of perfume I can’t quite identify. Taste is thick with coffee, bitter chocolate, roasted malt, a touch smoky. More akin to a stout than a porter. The finish is lingering and slightly boozy. Overall this is very good if slightly big for the style.

tanel025 (129) - ESTONIA - JUN 20, 2017
Dark brown with beige head. Aroma is roasty bread, slight rye. Taste is roasted malt, cocoa or dark chocolate. Little sweetness, almost no bitterness. Slightly sour. Drinkable.

ttoadee (1491) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUN 6, 2017
Deep brown pour, thin off white head. Nose is carmelized malt and a hint of coco. Middle is nice black patent malt, medium mouthfeel, and some chocolate shavings. Finish is bittersweet coco fading out.

tightslice (1309) - Redwood City, California, USA - APR 2, 2017
Bottle from Hometown Spirits in Flowery Branch, GA. Aroma is roasted malts, some earthy twigs, chicory. Taste is really straightforward roasted malts with some earthiness. Not tangy enough and more of a brown ale to me, but very drinkable.

3.4
colui72 (1025) - HONG KONG - FEB 22, 2017
Dark brown with a medium white head, some lacing. Aroma is minimal, some dark malts, very mild. Taste is much more intense than the mild nose, with lots of roasted malts, notes of coffee and chocolate, dark fruits, an unpleasant candi sugar after taste, and something metallic. Light bodied, pleasant carbonation, not too bad, in line with other Baird beers.

trapped (3147) - New York, TURKEY - NOV 16, 2016
Draught @ Wishbeer. Dark brown with reddish tint, smallish foamy beige head, very faint mocha aroma, low carbonation, lightly sweet mocha taste with a hint of cherry, somewhat thick body, medium bitter mocha finish. Nicely smooth but more like a milk stout than a porter.

2.9
mateuszk (2670) - Poznań, POLAND - SEP 22, 2016
Bottle. Mainly chocolate and coffee, light roastiness and herbal bitterness in finish. Nice, simple and drinkable.
