Kurofune (means "Black Ships") was the word the Japanese used to describe the American gunboats that came to open Japan to western trade. Kurofone Porter is sleek and forceful, but leaves a winning bittersweet taste of chocolate and coffee on the tongue. "Do not resist the superior might; cunningly acquiesce, and embrace." Kampai!

Bottled. A red-brown beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt and a bit of roated malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, a very light flavor, which is a drawback, leading to a dry and roasted finish, where a light note of tobacco linger.

Draught at Baird Naka-Meguro Taproom. Very dark brown, small head. oasty syrupy nose. Sweet and medium bodied. A bit disorganized with tar, molasses and water not being 100% integrated. Later, when chocolate grows in it turns more homogenous and pleasant, and it leaves me with a salty finish and positive memories.

Just about clear - dark brown beer! Malty nose, trace of chocolate. Light palate, quite airy and quite dry. Creamy malt but has an odd fresh green edge to it, struggling to explain any better! Finishes soft and with whisper of toasted malt. Both bland and a little odd. Not a good combo!
