UPDATED: MAY 26, 2012 Draught at the Nakameguro Taproom. Black with small bubbily head, giving away the thin mouth feel to come. Smell was roasted coffee mixed with the vinous baird hops and some chocolate as well. Dark chocolate and coffee cream taste, some hop presence as well. I was in my cups at this point but really liked this one.
Re-rate from 2010 bottle found in Australia. Palate is a bit thin still but nice and creamy, head is wonderfully pillowy and tan. Had to up the score - Baird is on a world scale, amazing brews! StueyD (1583) - Heacham, Norfolk, ENGLAND - DEC 15, 2014
A pitch black beer with a deep mocha coloured head. A rich roasted malt aroma, loads of espresso coffee, dark chocolate, dried fruit and nutty. Dry mouthfeel. The taste starts off dry, with flavours of nut, espresso coffee, dark chocolate, then a smooth sweeter flavour comes through, with raisiny dried fruit and a dark caramel, bordering on toffee taste that balances the dryness. The finish is long and smooth.
Tasted at BierCaB, Barcelona.

Bottle sampled on 9/15/07: Pours a nearly opaque with ruby mahogany hues and a spotty-lacing tan head. Aroma of smoky roasty dark malts and some dark chocolatey notes. Body starts with good dark caramel sweetness and a touch of earthy chocolatey complexity and a smooth chocolate and espresso finish. A nice stout. Draught at Baird Bashamichi Taproom, Yokohama - RBJG#2. Pitch black - offwhite head. Burned malts, dryness, licorice, nice bitterness, oiley, chocolate, high dark burned malts, nice. Capa (3295) - Kitsap, Washington, USA - JUN 2, 2008
Black with a hefty tan head. Roasted malts, some coffee, cocoa, some dark fruit, and mulch. Flavor is full of dark roasted malts, coffee, cocoa, a bit oily, and the earthy mulch shows up for a brief instant. Full bodied and proper stout carbonation. A very nice stout.

Tap at Nakameguro taproom. My favourite of the three stouts I had that night. Dark brown, big bubbly thick golden head. Aroma is oaty, bit of roast, touch of chocolate maybe. Littke bit of citrus. Taste is quite nice. Mellow and slightly creamy, roast again as expected, slight hop bitterness, touch of vanilla, bit of citrus fruitiness in there but well hidden. Finish is big and dark, thick and roasty.

On tap at CBM Jimbocho in 2014. Pitch black with a foamy tan head. Huge espresso aroma with hints of cacao nib, licorice and chocolate malts. Tastes bitter and sweet with nice balance. Medium-body with a slightly oily mouthfeel. Dark fruit becomes more prominent as it comes to room temperature. Nice bitterness on the finish. jonno (2761) - JAPAN - MAR 7, 2009
Boys done well here. On tap at the Taproom. Looks a bit cobbled, with a wispy head. Decent aroma of coffee and chocolate. Nice mouthful that goes on and on. Lots of dark malty goodness. Finish is long and moderately bitter. A great beer
