Dark brown, big head. Roasty porterish aroma. Quite toasty, light roast, moderate bitterness, like a hoppy, toasty porter. jinroh (2280) - ESTONIA - JUN 8, 2015
Bottle. Pours almost black, beige head, decent head and foam that leaves nice lacings. Aroma is relatively soft, with some injected robust roastiness and a bit of fresh hops, green apple. Taste is quite fruity, hop bitterness mixed with some soft raisins and dark plums. Long lingering bitterness at the end, half of it coming from hops and second half from burnt-roasted malts. Overall, the body feels quite round and soft, medium, so the strong hop profile at the end comes a bit of a surprise. Good stuff. willisread (3651) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 21, 2015
Review from last year. On tap at Nakameguro Taproom. Served in a stemmed tulip. Jet black with purple highlights and a nice big soapy head. Strong chocolatey malt aroma with hints of currant, muscat, citrus, cacao, seaweed and kale. Burned flavors are also present along with some pine needles. Mouthfeel is oily with an astringent finish of charred vegetables. Really interesting and awesome offering from Baird. Easily one of the best seasonals they offer. Bottle from Yamaoka. Black with beige head. Chocolate malt aroma, no hint of hops. Flavour has a nice hop finish to balance the initial malty chocolate hit. biirusaikou (2705) - - JUN 11, 2014
One of the nicest Baird seasonals in a while, dark chocolate malt balanced with nice fruity hops and hints of berries. Very smooth for a black IPA, okawari kudasai!

On tap at Bungalow. A dark reddish brown pour with a thick foamy light beige head. A good dose of chocolate malts & resinous hops in the nose. Medium bodied with a good chocolatey creamy flavor and a lightly bitting bitter hop finish. Good.

Bottle from The Craic, Takamatsu. Good stinky nose of dark fruits, musty hops, and, yes, kelp. Medium to high fizz, but nicely rounded. Slightly sticky aftertaste. Sweetness of licorice and blackcurrents there too. Juicy and hoppy. I like. shoulderbroken (4256) - Tokyo, JAPAN - JUL 13, 2012
UPDATED: JUN 14, 2015 Tap at Good Beer Faucets. Dark brown, very dark red colour with golden head. Aroma is cream, chocolate, roast malt, bit of smokiness, pine and citrus hops. Taste has some dark fruits, lots of malt, ovaltine-like almost. Touch of spice in there too giving it a bit of a prickle. At the same time, some chocolatey sweetness. Maybe something herbal in there too. Finish is toasty with subtle bitterness. Very smooth and medium bodied. Very nice.
Rerate Jun 15. Very different, oaty and treacle, smoke and caramel. Interesting. Lots of malt and light hoppiness at the end. Quite different.

Bottle, 12C. Black with a large beige head. Smells very fruity with stone and citrus fruits, some chocolate, pine and slight burnt notes. Oily mouthfeel. Not all that sweet. Astringent roasted and coffee notes straight away, but peaches and a little citrus are there too. A bit of dark toffee and pine are underneath. Bitterness is there but not as pronounced as I’d guess - there’s nearly as much astringency at the end as bitterness. Tasty and well-balanced. maneliquor (3514) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - NOV 30, 2011
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Nice dark brown pour with a very fluffy, off white head. Roasted malts and a little ash on the nose followed by a touch of pine and chocolate. Cocoa powder and roasted malts mingle throughout. Finish with pine and more of the roasted bitter notes. Quite flavoursome and very easy drinking. Good beer
