Bottle from Mane Liquor. Nice dark brown pour with a very fluffy, off white head. Roasted malts and a little ash on the nose followed by a touch of pine and chocolate. Cocoa powder and roasted malts mingle throughout. Finish with pine and more of the roasted bitter notes. Quite flavoursome and very easy drinking. Good beer Capa (3405) - Kitsap, Washington, USA - JUN 29, 2009
Draught at the Fishmarket and Towers. Dark body with a beige head. The hops are prevalent throughout the aroma and flavor. Bitter, malty, light molasses sweetness, fruits, some floral, pine, and a touch of chocolate. Very enjoyable beer. jonno (2886) - JAPAN - JUN 29, 2009
Another disappointing seasonal from Baird. Looked the business, very dark. Minimal malt/hop nose. A lot less hops than I was expecting. Very nuetral in this aspect for a supposed 80 IBUs. Quite malty, perhaps more balanced than expected for the style. biirusaikou (2705) - - JUN 11, 2014
One of the nicest Baird seasonals in a while, dark chocolate malt balanced with nice fruity hops and hints of berries. Very smooth for a black IPA, okawari kudasai! jinroh (2139) - ESTONIA - JUN 8, 2015
Bottle. Pours almost black, beige head, decent head and foam that leaves nice lacings. Aroma is relatively soft, with some injected robust roastiness and a bit of fresh hops, green apple. Taste is quite fruity, hop bitterness mixed with some soft raisins and dark plums. Long lingering bitterness at the end, half of it coming from hops and second half from burnt-roasted malts. Overall, the body feels quite round and soft, medium, so the strong hop profile at the end comes a bit of a surprise. Good stuff.

Pours a deep brown color with a ruby tint and a light brown head. Aroma is malty, caramel, roast, some chocolate, and very intense piny citrus hops. Flavor is roast, caramel, toast, and a very flavorful piny citrus hop finish. Really good dark hoppy beer. wetherel (1888) - Cupertino, California, USA - JUL 4, 2008
Tried with TimE at Bulldog pub in Tokyo. Let me first say that Im impressed with Tim and his ability to try 67/77 of Bairds beers, when most people have tried a 0-3. Interesting hoppy aroma. Some chocolate. Mild hop bitterness. Dark brown color. These black IPAs throw me for a loop. They either confuse me or I dont like them. Reminds me of my early attempts at trying sours, but now I realize they wont kill me, and I love them. Im not sure about these black IPAs. They still might kill me. Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of light hops, some chocolate malts, and caramel. Hops come out a little more on the flavor but not as much as I was expecting them to. Some chocolate and molasses come out on the flavor as well. Slight bitter finish. GenkiGonzo (1092) - Kyoto, JAPAN - OCT 17, 2014
Bottle from Yamaoka. Black with beige head. Chocolate malt aroma, no hint of hops. Flavour has a nice hop finish to balance the initial malty chocolate hit. osu97gp (678) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 6, 2009
Pours dark brown with a tannish head. Aroma of caramel, malts, and some hops. Flavor is of malts and hops. Not bad.
