Yuzu is the Japanese name for a citron (a slightly less acidic lemon-lime type fruit). It is a wonderfully aromatic fruit with a snappy zest that is much prized in Japan. We received our portion from the Temple grounds of the family of one of Baird Beers’ closest friends. We proceeded to shave off and collect the outer peels and hand-squeeze the juice. We then added both the peels and the juice to a rich, malted-wheat accented wort at the end of kettle boil. The end result is, in a word, divine! Hazy golden-orange in color, Temple Garden Yuzu Ale sports a cloud-like creamy white head that immediately conjures images of a higher being. The brisk citric aroma of Yuzu quickly invades the olfactory senses. The mouthfeel is softy coating and fruity-sweet but a playful carbonation and citric acidity keep the palate in an alert state of attention. Finally, a kiss of malt roundness and honeyed sweetness send the Yuzu fruit flavor into paroxysms of Nirvana-like joy. Temple Garden Yuzu Ale surely is a beery sign that, in the apocryphal words of Benjamin Franklin, "God loves us and wants us to be happy."

Alluring citrus aroma in a hazy amber pour. Hop forward balance with a citrus fruit body and zesty finish.

Bottle. Crisp lemon citrus aroma. Dark orange aroma with a frothy off-white head and lots of carbonation. Lots of sediment. Crisp citrus flavour with some underlying malt sweetness. Medium body. Mild bitter finish. Very refreshing.

Bottle from Asahiya. Light malty nose with a whole lotta citrus zest. Cloudy amber/brown color. Gentle initial fruitiness, and the yuzu really jumps up in the mid palate. Bittering combines with the yuzu notes to create a peppery sort of feeling on the tongue.. Light bitter and slightly tangy dry finish.Thin body. Very pleasant stuff. The yuzu is well integrated and not overdone, as it is in some other yuzu-infused brews.

Flaska. Oklar orange med ett vitt skum. Dofter av citrus och malt. Smakinslag av citron, malt, apelsin och parfym. Härlig sur-sötma i avslutningen.

On tap at Baird Harajuku Taproom. This is a very interesting beer. Fruity aroma with plum and citrus. Flavor has lots of tangy like citrus. Perfume sweetness. Citrus tang is very dominate and lasts a long time.

Ungstrup (38243) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - JAN 15, 2017
Draft. An unclear golden beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and lots of yuzu fruits. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of yuzu fruits, straw, and malt, leading to a bitter finish.

Fules (1336) - Gyöngyös, HUNGARY - NOV 6, 2016
Kicsi, nem túl tartós hab, narancssárga szín, szűretlen. Citromos, narancsos illat. Citrusos, grapefruitos, mandarinos ízvilág, és mintha egy leheletnyi menta is lenne benne. Közepesen testes, erősen szénsavas, enyhén keserű. Kellemes, frissítő nedű.

330ml bottle (Beerfox, Riga)
Spicy citrussy aroma. Deep orange, tight head. Sweetish malts in the taste, and a ton more citrus, almost like the preserved kumquats we used to have. However, there’s a good balance there too. That’s helped by the full palate. The clearer of the two glasses was more perfumey and crisper. Maybe, after finishing it, it was a bit sweet. Citrussy bite lasted for ever.
