While many breweries feature a "flagship" brand that carries the main load in terms of production and sales, we at Baird Brewing view our entire year-round lineup as our "flagship" brand. Consequently, we aim to represent as broad a swath of the ale beer world within our year-round lineup as possible. This means that up and down our entire portfolio, the beer enthusiast will see represented a significant variation in flavor, aroma, color, turbidity, gravity and alcohol strength. Wheat King Ale finds its place in this lineup as the new lead-off hitter (our Ichiro, if you will). It is low in gravity (1.0420) and alcohol strength (ABV approximately 4.2%) but big in flavor production and refreshment. It is an ale of great versatility, flourishing most, however, in the roles of apertif, session beer, and drink companion to fish, poultry and lightly but zestily seasoned food dishes. While enjoying a depth and dynamism that make it a satisfying year-round libation, Wheat King Ale likely will dazzle you most with its refreshing qualities in hot and sultry weather (e.g. summer in Japan!). Wheat King Ale will become the table-setter for the Baird Beer year-round lineup. We hope and trust that you will enjoy!

On tap at Naka-Meguro taproom. Served in a weizen glass. Hazy gold in color with soapy white head. Clove, coriander, wheat and yeast all present on the nose with a slight fruit undertone. Taste is more of the same with some fruit coming out: papaya, pineapple and a slight pear. Medium body. Dry finish. Refreshing.

0,33L bottle (as Wheat King Wit from Koht, Tallinn), BB 07.05.15. Pours slightly hazy yellow with small white head. The head doesn’t stay. Aroma is weak, wheat, spices, fruits. Flavor is sweet, acidic, fruity, metallic, some spices, and citrus. Overall: not very good, but not drain-pour.

Tap at Craft, Bangkok. Poured a hazy light amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is yeast, zesty citrus. The flavour is acid citrus with an earthy mineral yeast light toothpaste bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. I’m not a huge fan of the style but this was a good, easy drinking example.

Marduk (7694) - Reval, ESTONIA - JAN 13, 2015
330ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Clear golden color. Tiny size, white head, stays. Very faint coriander, sourish, malty, armpits in aroma. Somewhat spicy, straw, slightly starchy taste. Soft carbonation. Papery aftertaste.

tarmok (1432) - Tartu, ESTONIA - JAN 11, 2015
Liquid is clear pale yellow, head is minimal white foam, tastes lightly sour.

FatPhil (16102) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 9, 2015
330ml bottle (Pothouse, Tallinn)
Clear, the beer smells of butter popcorn, a little bit sour. A tiny splash of the crud covered only part of that horror. Rough and harsh in the mouth. Shivers down the spine. Ug, I guess it’s spicy clovey wheat, but it’s nasty. Do not want.

VamboladeTolly (1963) - Tartu, ESTONIA - JAN 7, 2015
Bottle @ De Tolly Joogipood. Pours slightly hazy pale yellow almost no head. Arom: wheat, malty, sour, weak banana notes. Taste is sweet and sour, yeast, wheat, watery. Nothing special.

GenDV138 (7284) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - DEC 22, 2014
