Bottle sampled @ Quintessence 2012. With some fine chocolate caviar served alongside. Aged on Italian red wine. Whiskey sized pour of a completely flat, not the slightest inkling of a head of a brandy looking liquid - colour me impressed. Smell is very sweet caramel mixed with dark sugar, liqueur, honey, dark fruits, wood. Taste is slick, bit thick, oily goodness, caramel, toff, liqueur, concentrated caramelized sugar, maple light dark fruits leading in a lightly woody and vinous finish. I liked this one even more than the already exceptional Baladin Xyauyù Barrel - even rounder, slicker - mighty fine stuff.

Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy dirty brown color ale with no carbonation. Aroma of oxidized sweet caramelized malt is very nice. Taste is a nice mix of caramelized malt with some residual sugar, oxidation with a light watery finish. Body is full with no carbonation. Very nice level of complexity and oxidation is actually quite well balanced in the mix. The only thing that bothered me is the watery thin finish.

Chocolate, lighter bodied. Slight colour. sweet finish. Good barleywine, but less rich than the lune. More but still modest red wine.

Beautiful ruby color with a small head. Aroma is incredibly rich, dark fruit, sweet caramel, vanilla and alcohol. Taste is very sweet, prunes, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, toffee. Really good.

Dull light brown, no head. The aroma has a fair bit of chocolately, espresso character, with maybe a light brown sugar. There is light sugars, some tree fruits, and finishing in a bit of wood. There’s a fairly sherryish oxidiation in the finish, with a touch of alcohol lending a little bit of drynes.

500mL bottle, pours a filthy dark orange with a small bubbly beige head. Aroma has some oxidation, with red wine barrels, light caramel and toasted bready notes. Flavour has pleasant sherry-like oxidation, caramel, vanilla and subtle red wine. Finishes with vanilla, subtle sherry and caramel. Complex, warming, and beautifully constructed. Fantastic.

HHOK 18. Dark brown body, no head. Aroma has some dark hops, raisins, dried fruits, chocolate and rye. Flavour has chocolate, alcohol, mixed fruits and raisins, roasted caramel and intense red wine notes. When warms, this becomes a chocolate bomb.

Woody and less vinegary than xiauyu, faint on the after taste and aroma. A watered down version of xiauyu if you take them in that ordered.
