COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This version is created by ageing Xyauyù in barrels of (peaty) Islay whiskey.

Editor’s note: previously there was another smoked version of Xyauyù; the X-Fumé was brewed with smoked tea (Lapsang Suchong) and no whiskey barrel; last known vintages are 2008/2009.
The new Xyauyù Fumé appeared first on draught at Open Baladin or Un Mare di Birra with specific barrel indication (Laphroaig; Caoli Ila...). The first bottles appeared in 2012, vintage 2008 (notice the overlapping of vintages with X-Fumé).

Very interesting and sperimental beer,draught many times,it has a very complex organoleptic profile. Starting sweet going to dry passing by every category of tasting aromas. Recommended

2011 vintage. Beer is transparent, almost clear with just a tiny pieces of yeast. Color is deep amber with a super awesome golden reflections. No head obviously. Very rich, thick and dense aroma, full of raisins, dates, plums, red wine, wood and a touch of strong alcohol whisky-like. Mouthfeel is perfect. It’s obviously totaly flat, no carbonation at all, but the smoothness, and the velvety feeling is super-pleasant, no words can describe it. Taste has many layers. It want to be sweet but the main notes - whisky barrel note, is dragging down the sweetness, so in the end it Appears to be rather dry. There is also like a thousends notes of plums and dates. There is even brush of bitterness in the aftertaste, but it’s very like wooden one. Amazing beer, really close to perfect one.

Vintage 2010. Bottle @ DobryZbeer. Pours brown, hazy, no head. One of the most complexed aromas ever tried. First sniff - whisky, barrel made huge impact, peat. smoke. Then cherries, lots of smoke, bacon even, dry fruits, gean, wood, raisin. In mouth very sweet, syrupy. No bitterness, no alcohol. Long heavy aftertaste of whisky or rather whisky liqueur. Super dense and oily. Amazing experience.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2013 Non ne ricordavo il nome, comunque un dei migliori barley wine mai bevuti. Un whisky torbato ma più dolce che accarezza il palato anzichè aggredirlo. Semplicemente fantastico!!! Prima di acquistarlo in bottiglia passerà almeno un altro anno in botte, chissà come diventerà. Potenzialmente al livello della X-Fumè.

22/09/2012 Open Baladin 3rd Birthday (Barrique). Versata in teku direttamente dalla botte. Bellissimo color rame, con caldi riflessi arancia-rubino, intensissimo, schiuma assente. Al naso ha decise note torbate, sullo sfondo frutta matura, sciroppo d’acero, ossidazione, alcol. In bocca è stupefacente, dolce, intensa, calda, con note torbate, incredibilmente complessa, simile a un Whisky. Corpo pieno, setosa, vellutata, piatta. Assolutamente spiazzante. Una birra clamorosa.

Bomba a mano, sembra di bere un whiskey invecchiato senza percepire i gradi alcolici, bevendola richiama un torbato incredibile che si bilancia con uno speziato persistente al naso e al palato, non vorresti smettere di sorseggiarla,caretta di solito ma se li merita tutti

Birra tecnicamente perfetta, è un barley wine servito dalla botte che profuma di vaniglia e torba, molto corposo, come un whisky da fine pasto.
